The ball didn't HIT 18 feet away. The ball didn't stop, 18 feet away. It rocked and slowly turned, and rolled faster into the bunker. A bunch have done this. They don't stop rolling, until they are off the green. Saw someone miss a putt and it finished off the green down the hill.

Remember that time... I forget if it was Bay Hill or Doral, but someone (I think Calc?) hit a putt into the water.

Tiger did at Augusta before.

But it was a putt!  It had to have been a good shot, right? ;-)

Are you serious?  He's like 25 years old, two PGA Tour wins (one of which he was a defending champion), plus two playoff losses... and you say he sucks?

I think we're in that nebulous "a big name needs to win" territory with this discussion. In other words, with the remaining field and (esp.) current leaderboard, anyone not named Dustin who wins this is akin to Danny Willett. And that's very bad for the game, don'cha know?

Much as I dislike that big southern nancy, Gooner, Ferrari-collector, and whiny social media cry-baby, Poults, I almost wish he'd held it together. He fulfills the "big name" category for those who care about such things, and I could almost (almost) be pleased to see a glorified journeyman like him punching above his weight, and winning a major late in his career.

Nah, on second thoughts I hope Berger wins.

What about Xander S.?  His last name is pretty big.

Wow, it's still within 10' (at least, looks to be within that on TV). (DJ par putt on #18)

Tiger putted into the water at Augusta, yes.

In fairness to Phil, only eight of those involved hitting the golf ball.

That I knew -- It was still obscene.  The day overall has been crazy, and now DJ has surrendered his lead, allowing Berger and Finau (congrats on a great Saturday, fellows) to be the last two out on Sunday.

Said this earlier, but some of you guys are saying this course is too hard, Shinnecock Hills is a teddy bear compared to Carnoustie when the wind kicks up there. Now that’s a brutal golf course. You may not want to turn on the Open next month if you’re complaining about this course.

You keep saying this, but… no. Carnoustie can play softer, and likely won't be set up quite like Shinnecock was today. They can set it up easier. Move tees up a little. Cut holes on better spots on greens. Etc.

No - Mickelson did exactly as they said. He didn't put is putter out to stop the ball or flick it off to the side. How is that grasping at straws? You may as well say that when you drive the ball you stop it because at some point it comes to rest.

Long putts do tend to save you a shot.

So if Sergio had ran to his ball (Masters) and hit it back towards the hole before it could roll into the creek...that’d be fine?

And Phil said, ‘ I went to hit the ball back towards the hole because I knew it would end up back behind the bunker with no shot.’

Youre giving a lot of slack there @Shorty.

Awesome to see Finau in the last group. Have been following him closely for awhile now.

Fox's audio constantly cutting out was annoying.

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. The deletion of all false advertising distributed and recall of all packaging containing false advertising and a requirement that Stack System issue notices (written or otherwise) to that effect to all current distributors and retailers of its products and all distributors with whom Stack System has done business in the past eighteen months. Written confirmation within 30 days of an injunction detailing the manner and form in which Stack System has complied. An order that Stack System disseminate corrective advertising informing consumers, the trade, and the public of Stack System’s unlawful conduct. 3X all profits received by Stack System as a result of its unlawful actions. 3X all damages sustained by SuperSpeed (as a result of Stack System’s actions) The cost of the action All reasonable attorney fees All other relief to which SuperSpeed are entitled and such other or additional relief as just and proper. Oy.
    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
    • Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that.   The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.
    • Perceptive rules question by caddie unlocks Tour pro’s ‘dead zone’ relief A perceptive rules question by Xander Schauffele’s caddie, Austin Kaiser, unlocked “dead zone” relief during the Wells Fargo Championship.
    • I ran across an interesting new clip, Johnson Wagner went into that spot with the Referee who allowed the relief.  Apparently there was a perfectly reasonable shot to be made, as Johnson clearly demonstrated, so relief from the TIO was perfectly appropriate.
