Hey guys,

I have started the gym 20 days ago, just doing normal cardio and doing exercise on machines. Today, I got pain in my lower back and still, now it's not getting better. Not able to sit properly, please help me, guys.Β Β

ThanksΒ

Short term fix is lower back stretching exercises (google images forΒ "lower back pain exercises" and find some that work for you), hot bath, massage.

Longer term fix is barbell rows toΒ build someΒ lower back muscle and stretching to make sure it does not get too tight and the blood is circulating well.

Foam rollers can help.

Go to a doctor. They can check if it's a herniated disk or maybe just muscle spasms. You might need a dose of muscle relaxers if the spasms are really bad.

Since you probably don't know what's actually causing the pain, you should go see a doctor. Any well meaning advice on a forum could possibly cause a worse problem.Β

Just reading your post, I might guess you just tweaked a muscle. However, what if that perceived pull is actually a tear in the muscle? What if the pain is actually caused by a messed up disc, or possibly a pinched nerved? There is no way of telling what's wrong without a professional check up.

I did the lower back stretching exercise, but not getting any relief even today I didn't go to the gym. Today, when I wake up early in the morning, there was a lot of pain in my back.Β
Most of my friends advised me to relax the body and don't go to the gym for a couple of days. So, guys please suggest me on this. should I go to the gym?

I would not go to the gym until I have seen a medical doctor; give it a rest. Also a chiropractor can offer adjustments and spinal decompression therapy and it can help. All this is based on my experience. Best wishes, -Marv

Don't go to gym.Β  Go for a medical checkup to see if it is a structural problem.

Β

Usually there areΒ 4Β mainΒ sourcesΒ of back problem and different ways to treat.Β

Structural problem such as spine or nerve issues, see the doc.Β  Chiropractor also maybe.

Lack of blood circulation slows recovery.Β Β Hot bath/Sauna, Massage, Inversion/elevation of legs.

Tense muscles slow recovery.Β  Stretching/Yoga, Foam roller.

Weak lower back muscles not supporting the body well enough, recover first then do barbell rows.

Β

But check first if there is a structural problem.

Aches are one thing, "lots of pain" is a completely different thing.Β  When I have lots of pain, I stop doing whatever I think might have caused it.Β  If it doesn't go away fairly quickly, I see a doctor.Β  Make sure there's no real injury first.

It could be a herniated disk. does it go down your leg.? Go see a Chiropractor and look at the x rays. I use an inversion table myself to keep the muscles around my back lengthened. Hopefully

you just strained some muscles.Β

Why would you still be discussing going to the gym while in unbearable pain?

I have back issues off and on,Β

1. Don't go to the gym

2. Back stretches help - I use the "Back to Life" Videos

https://friendlylook.com/back-to-life-review/

One night in desperation, I found this inexpensive program. She has 10 minute and 20 minute easy to perform vids. It helped but what worked in addition to stretching was a small spiked ball. I lay on that ball on the spot of pain - hurts at first when it hits the area - and adjust the ball to hit other areas. I also have a foam roller but no - that is for general daily stretching. For me, the spiked ball or even a small polyurethane that is firm and does not collapse, does the trick.

3. I also found a licensed therapist - helps but the small, firm ball works.

I'd use all of the above. If it doesn't work, see doc. But I'm not a doc and this is only what has worked for my lower back pain, which is chronic - lower back, just to the right of the middle, and then of course, the rest of the lower back tightens because you compensate.

What you really want to figure out is if a disc is messed up. If so, then you want specific specialist help in determining if physical therapy or surgery is the best options.

If not, then it might be a nasty muscle spasm. It could be a pinched nerve somewhere that is causing pain in the back. Pressure on a nerve somewhere else in the body doesn't necessarily produce pain at that location.

Having had three lower back surgeries I know a 'little' about it. Don't go to the gym especially if you have pain down the legs, (right or left). Go to a doctor and I recommend a neurosurgeon not an orthopedics doctor, (not that I want to hurt anyone feelings).Β Lower back pain can be caused by many things, you need to have it checked out. They will probably do an MRI if the pain is severe enough or doesn't go away. Seek help.

Β

You should go see your health provider to get a referral to see aΒ Specialist for Sports related injury.

Let's hope you had only sprang a muscle strand , nothing more serious.Β  I would not wait too long even if you starting to feel better.

Lower back pain could be caused by many reasons, and it's a very common ailment among the golfers.Β  Without a good back, you'll not only suffer with your golf game but also many other daily routines.Β Β

The reason to see a specialist is to not self diagnose illness.Β  I had the golfer's back in the Middle and Lower trap of the scapular muscle ( the two large loin next to the spinal core below the neck ) off and on for years.Β  It got better and it got worse.... so I didn't pay attention to it.Β Β

Until I had a mini stroke and lost a small area of my peripheral vision.Β  Long story short, the spinal core injury was not the main culprit but contributed in my condition with other factors.

Bad posture for decades ( reading and sitting in front of the computer) plus aging......only discovered this after the discomfort in my shoulders and the back resulted in seeing a sports spine specialist.Β  After several weeks of adjusting my posture and exercise, I had not only relieved the discomfort, improved my postureΒ but also improved on my vision.Β  Strange isn't it ?Β  How did the compressed spinal disc damage my health in other parts ?

Go see a specialist, you'll be glade you did.
