Maybe the screw is a style thing like fins on an old Cadillac.

The i500s were hollow inside, so the screw is there to offset weight from the hosel.  The screw is just another piece to help with fitting and feel.

What sucks too Vinsk, is I want to hit them outside this spring when our April demo day comes up and I can hit it off of grass but the range balls are rocks.  I wanted to see if the i500 sounded or felt better outside off of grass.

Again, me... trying /wanting them to work.

Weight on the toe can also help with toe misses and move the sweetspot towards the middle from the heel. Depends on the design and we don't know much about the club - looks very demanding - definitely not for me.

I was referring to the Blueprint irons. Someone said they were not hollow and someone else thought the screw was to add weight. Did not seem to add up.

True that doesn't add up.  I'm going to go with them being hollow because of the screw being there.

Guys, the answer is right there.

If you have a head made of aluminum, and you put a tungsten screw in the toe… the CG moves toward the toe and the head gets heavier as well.

Density of all metals is not the same.

@iacas mentioned it, but tungsten is a common metal used in making irons and it's more dense than stainless steel. Many manufacturers use tungsten in specific places for the purpose of manipulating CoG.

I get it, I have a mech engineering degree. I think my Ping E1's have tungsten in the toe of the aluminum shaft. If you look real close you can barely see its outline. Not sure why they did not just go that route as the screw is just confusing people. Maybe it is a fashion trend?

Because with a screw they can adjust the swing weight and the position of the CG. Lots of PING clubs have weight adjustments like this. The iBlades have a weight in the back cavity.

Sometimes on woods you’ll see a weight screw that isn’t meant to be user-adjustable that they use to tune the headweight based on the as-built weight of the club. TaylorMade in particular does that a lot. 

Could be the same idea here. (Probably not, if I had to guess. But maybe.)

Oh yeah, i500...nice concept but I never hear anything good.  I hit them outside, don't see any benefit.  Prefer the i210.   

Now the Blueprint irons...hmmmm....look nice but the Ping rep told be a few months they are very tough to hit.  And expensive.  I have a demo day coming up in June so I'll probably hit this all day.

      Kind of reminds me of my first driver - a TM R580 at a whopping 400cc.  Still have one in the stable - and like to hit it on occasion.  Makes me wonder if the Mini-drivers of today are a testing ground to drivers of tomorrow of the powers that be opt to roll back driver head size in conjunction to the ball roll back to limit the overall distance.  I’ve not done a lot of research on shot distances between the mini and regular drivers, but figured there is some.  Will be something to follow as the mini-driver unfolds.

      I agree with you, at least in regards to myself and playing. I can't really speak much for others. I assume that some people who are playing golf very often can notice more drastic differences. That being said, I do notice some differences here and there and sound and feel definitely have some say in which ball I end up liking. But that seems more psychological than physical. I've only been playing golf regularly for a year now and I'll play almost any ball since I often lose balls. However, since I've been able to get out once a week for a while now, I am down to losing only about 2-3 balls from losing 10-14 per round. Which feels huge for me and so I've begun to narrow down the balls I choose to play with. I've gone through a box of Vice Pro Plus, Vice Pro, Sugar, Titleist DT Trufeel and Kirklands. Bought a bucket of 350 used balls which had a majority of Srixon Soft Feels in there. I decided to give the Soft Feels a try and have really been enjoying them quite a bit. Only yesterday did I hit a Pro V1 for the first time and it felt quite nice. However, that all being said, I have to admit, I've played my best overall with Vice Pro Plus balls. I get the most distance from these balls and am able to hit them quite well. I am not sure on green side spin/grip, I think I'd prefer them to check up a bit more. But I believe one really big factor for me with these balls is that I usually club down when hitting them because I gain so much distance off of them and I also tend to bring my swing speed down which causes me to have a more accurate swing and ball strike. As opposed to trying to whack the snot out of the ball each time, which ends up in a slice 75% of the time. I do love testing out new balls though, sound and feel is always fun to experience.

      I am in the same boat, I'd love to test a LAB OZ but nobody here has them either and I've never seen one played on any courses I've been on. Nor can I afford/commit to blindly buy something at this price and not know how it works for me. I've been playing a cheapy $60 Wilson Harmonized M1 for a long time and was looking at new putters but the price of a new putter is really off-putting. Thankfully I played in a tournament in November and ended up winning a brand new Taylormade TR B31. Will probably be playing this for a few years until I get to try something like the LAB OZ and once it's been discounted if I like it.
