1. I line the shaft up to get an intermediate aiming point.

2. I line up to that (checking occasionally the target).

3. I waggle a little throughout #2.

4. I rehearse my takeaway.

5. I waggle a few more times.

6. I swing.

I practiced this for a few minutes today. Lately, steps 3 and 5 have gotten too long.

I hate but can't ever seem to eliminate the left elbow thing. I hate the feeling I sometimes get in my left armpit. Like it's bunching up too much in there or something. That move not only looks stupid, it barely changes anything, so I will eventually work on just getting rid of it.

Now show us your pre-shot routine!

Cool idea. Planning on practicing/filming today anyway, so I'll pop it up here.

  1. Stand behind ball while taking my grip and aligning the shaft with my intended target line to pick an intermediate target.
  2. Take my stance while keeping my eyes on the intermediate target, aligning everything at once.
  3. Quick peek at my target down the line.
  4. Swing.

It's a pretty fast pre-shot routine. I'll try filming it if I remember it one day.

Yes please.

To be blunt I'm not interested in reading people's pre-shots. We have threads for that. I want to SEE them. Hence " Show Us " in the title. :D

I guess I can just splice together some of my vlog videos and call it a day ;-) I've found that I don't have a consistent pre-shot routine. If it's important, maybe I'll work on one.

1. Grip in my left hand first. For me I always have to make sure the heel pad is on top.

2. Line the shaft up with spot in front of the ball, like 2 or 3 feet in front of the ball.

3. Aim the face to that spot.

4. Set my feet/body parallel left of the target line, not the start line.

5. Settle into my posture.

6. Look at my spot, then at the target.

7. Rehearse my takeaway or my backswing.

8. Swing!

I also tap the club a few times but I don't know that I'm doing it :-P

I will film mine today. @iacas and @mvmac , do you do a practice swing before addressing the ball?  Would you consider that part of the pre-shot?

To me a pre shot routine is something you do the same every time. So if you sometimes do or don't take a practice swing, then I would say no.

If you see the other tread about pre-shot routines you've got some people talking about checking the distance, wind, etc., and others leaving all that out.  Practice swings are sort of border line.

Pelz divided it into a routine and a ritual.  If this works, this link should be that particular page in the book:  http://books.google.com/books?id=6g-hU963X8sC&pg;=PA128&lpg;=PA128&dq;=pelz+routine+and+ritual&source;=bl&ots;=YHY7eUUB3z&sig;=JhOXwB1iY7zC7DJ7wssDu52gXT0&hl;=en&sa;=X&ei;=E101VM60C8rjsASqrILYDw&ved;=0CB4Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q;=pelz%20routine%20and%20ritual&f;=false

I'd probably draw the line at the point where you decide its time to stop thinking and go hit the ball.

I do take a practice swing, it can vary though. Sometimes I make two swings, one swing, half swing where I just brush the grass, pacing can vary as well.

I tend to think of my "pre-shot routine" as something I do when I'm ready to go, when I'm "committed" to the shot. I can make practice swings waiting for the group in front of me or when someone else is getting ready to hit. I only do the stuff on my list when I'm going to hit a shot. Even though the practice swing comes before the shot I didn't list it but I'm not going to disagree if others decide to put their practice swing as part of their routine ;-)

I'm guilty of not having a set pre-shot routine. It's normally something like in this video, but depending on how I feel, it may be different.

Funny. No where in any of those videos do I see the part where you drop to your knees in prayer or even genuflect.

By the way, awesome looking facility @iacas . If I ever get the chance to visit my brother in Hudson, I may have to stop by.

My pre-shot routine includes a practice swing and I'm trying to pattern what I'm currently working on (currently I'm working on keeping my hands close to my body on the start of the takeaway and not going over the top on my downswing).

I don't really understand the bit about lining up behind the ball so I don't do that.  I feel I can aim adequately without doing that (not that my ball goes where I aim often enough).
