Not a whole lot in writing yet since it's a breaking story, but Golf Channel is reporting that Robert Allenby was kidnapped from a bar, beaten up, and robbed after missing the cut at the Sony Open. He was dropped 6 miles from the bar. Here's a picture Jason Sobel tweeted out: EDIT: Story from Golf Channel: http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golf-central-blog/allenby-kidnapped-bar-and-beaten-robbed/
Robert Allenby was kidnapped from a bar Friday night in Honolulu, beaten and robbed before being dropped off miles away from the spot of the kidnapping. Golf Channel’s Steve Sands reported that Allenby was in a wine bar near Waikiki with his caddie and another friend when he was taken. Both individuals in his party were not with the Aussie at the time of his kidnapping. Allenby then sustained significant facial injuries and was robbed of his wallet, cell phone, cash and credit cards before being dropped off in a park more than six miles away from where he was taken. Allenby, 43, missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii after rounds of 71-71. He was planning to fly back to the mainland U.S. Saturday morning. According to Sands, Allenby awoke groggy and with no recollection of what had happened to him. He was picked up in the park by a retired military individual and returned to the Kahala Hotel, near Waialae Country Club and where he had spent the week. Upon speaking with his caddie and friend Saturday morning, Allenby began to piece together the events of Friday night and returned to the wine bar with police to review surveillance footage with the hopes of determining the culprits.
That's nuts. Not the kind of thing you think of happening to someone semi-famous in America. More like something that happens in Colombia.

This is such a strange story. I wonder if we will get more details. Hawaii is not a big island and people know each other pretty well, likely someone knows more about this story.

Bummer I got robbed once after a Wilco concert walking in a bad part of town. Happened so fast it was crazy. A guy behind jammed his hand in my back pocket and snatched my wallet then two others tried to trip me. By the time I regained balance they were running the other way and gone.

Tim Rosaforte just reported that he was dumped in a park 6 miles from where he was taken. Said he woke up in a gully being kicked by homeless people. A woman said she saw him pulled from a car trunk then a retired military man came to his aid and gave him cab money to get back to his hotel. There were 2 people with him at the bar but he was alone in the parking lot garage when it happened.

I agree it seems strange, why wasn't he with the guys he showed up with?  Whenever I'm in a foreign place I make sure my group sticks together, no man left behind, etc.

Maybe Allenby got set up by a girl and was jumped heading into her car or wherever she drove to.

Looks like he'll be okay considering that he's lucky to be alive.

Happens all the time in HI. Anyone who has lived there can attest to that. Nobody will be found or charged with anything unless the victim was Hawaiian. It is the most racist place I have ever been to. I wish everyone would stop going there and run their economy into the ground.

Read one report that suggested a correlation between missing the cut and getting beaten/robbed.

So why aren't there 80 guys getting beat up every week?

As for l'affaire Allenby, I think there's a lot we're not being told ...
