Loaded the new OS Win 10 on Dell tablet.

Installation took about 2 hours, give or take.

Just playing with the new "Edge browser"

Slightly different look, seems good.

Anyone have suggestions for interests likes / dislikes?

Haven't seen it so I can't comment but I have to ask.

Did I snooze through Windows 9?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Did I snooze through Windows 9?

Microsoft didn't use 9 because (supposedly) software coding that sees "9" might (could? would?) think it was windows 95 or 98.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know.

A better reason might be that 10 is farther away from 8.  And the farther away from windows 8, the better.

I'm not-so-patiently waiting for them to let me upgrade my desktop computer with it. It looks nice, so I'm looking forward to fooling around with it since they'll let you go back to what you had if you don't like it in a month.

I remember an awesome bumper sticker back in the day, Windows 98 = Mac '88

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a Windows Vs Apple debate. After all, OS X is already 10.10

But to be 100% honest this is the first time that Windows has launched anything that has made me think they are trying to get ahead of the curve instead of constantly chasing (near) perfection.

And they have finally gotten rid of Internet Explorer!

The last meaningful release i remember from microsoft was internet explorer, back when netscape owned the browser market. Those freebies thrown in got a lot of people to switch.

I cant remember the last time i used internet explorer as it is way too slow for me.

My office computer is waiting for its win 10 download - i dont see that laptop making its way back to the living room no matter how good the release is, but i will play with it once we get it.

There are some privacy issues with Windows 10 that aren't obvious or intuitive to disable.  Here is a good link to check out before or after installing; http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/29/wind-nos/

Good to know. All this tracking BS is likely a big part of why they are giving it away for free. I already reserved a spot for the free download but I might hold off a bit longer until more of this comes to light.

OS X is free and doesn't violate privacy like this. Apple has a pretty firm stance on privacy. Google and Microsoft not so much…

Not very impressed. Unstable to say the least. The installation fails on almost every machine I've seen. Only upgraded my new Lenovo Yoga 15, left my desktops and other laptops on 8.1. Not sure what everyone's gripe is about 8.1 - maybe they never did the free upgrade from 8? Regular Windows 8 did suck pretty bad, but 8.1 fixed it right up. Either way, Windows 8.1 is hands down the most stable OS that Microsoft has ever released aside from XP SP2. I agree 8.1/8 is quite different from the old versions, but once you learn to use the new start menu it saves tons of time. As a multi tasking programmer I love windows 8.1 (they shouldn't have removed camera resolution settings but oh well), but if I was just wanting to get on Facebook and creep on my kids, I admit the changed UI would feel unnecessary and confusing. I'm so ready for Windows to be rebuilt from the ground up on the Unix platform. Will Bill ever remove his head from his arse long enough to swallow his pride and make his OS 10x better by doing this? Probably not, but a nerd can dream. If Windows was based off of Unix, there'd be no reason to buy any OSX machine.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

Windows 10 allows your updates to be shared not only on your lan but to others outside your local network.

What would this specifically do to make it better that can't be done otherwise, besides appease your apparent personal preference?

Also, just a note, but Bill Gates is no longer CEO. I'm pretty sure he doesn't call all the shots on what happens with each individual product.

P2P sharing has been around and popular for several years.

The main purposes were to speed up downloading data by having various means when sites have high demand.

They were very popular for large files(movie downloads), when everyone was DL them, now most people just stream their vids.

P2P is a great way for downloading files.

You have the option not to support the service, but that defeats the purpose of sharing.

It's not like everyone is riding a free WiFi service using your bandwidth.

I never had that many issues w/8 unlike most people. Yeah, it was funky in some places, but I didn't think the hate was commensurate with the amount of change. Btw, I thought I missed the deadline to upgrade. I missed the logo upgrade thingy. Turns out to can still download the iso and upgrade. Actually, I think it was easier this way, no checking e-mail. Just install and done.

I agree 8 was suppose to give the look and feel of launching apps similar to most phone users, which many window users disliked.

Everyone was comfortable with desktop, the start menu and were not patient with the learning curve.

As a multi tasking programmer I love windows 8.1

I also liked the many methods to move back and forth between applications and to launch new programs.

System always ran smoothly even with several programs up and running.

Guessing it was the "charms" which people didn't find all that charming.

Going from 8 to 10 OS, is pretty much a walk in the park. Users who disliked 8 will still probably be skeptical, but should enjoy the new features once

they grasp the fundamentals.

    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
    • Wordle 1,003 3/6 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩   felt a little like Wyndham when the first three green and I began the fist pump…
    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
