I’ve been working with the longer band over the past few weeks. Last week, my range opened up again and I got to hit some real balls. I have the pitching motion down for the most part, but when I go for longer swings, I can’t hit it right. When I try doing my typical swing with the longer band, it always crosses over under my club. I guess that means I’m too flippy. When I try to keep the band behind and have it hit on my forearm on the follow through, I usually end up hitting behind the ball and/or leaving the clubface way open at impact. It feels really weird, like I’m holding off the follow through to keep the band from crossing over. When the club hits the ground early, it almost always crosses over.

It’s frustrating, but I’ll keep working with it - definitely get a different feeling from it. I try to take it off and hit some without it after. Need to get the camera setup for the range too. Anyone else been using it and struggling through like me?

Looks like it’s working. Can’t see you shanking the ball like that.

Was thinking about picking one up, but not sure if it can supplement what my Evolvr coach has me working on, or if I should just skip it altogether.

Used properly it’s pretty good for golf swings. But it may not be your priority piece.

Great. They're nice for a lot of things. Particularly down near the ball.

I have to add that it matches very close to what my Evolvr instructor has had me work on for the last year. I use it as part of my practice at times as a refresher. Well worth it.

I ran into the second "speed bump" in my off-season training, earlier this week: Takeaway. (First was unlearning "straight back, head up.")  Talked to one of my trainers. He suggested a PlaneMate might help me get it right.

Unfortunately I bunged my right knee up in the meantime, and my "golf studio" (the living room) is a bit cluttered with our painter's dreck, so I won't find out for a few days.

I'm curious, the Planemate had a lot of buzz for about a year or year and a half. I haven't heard much for a while. Have people gotten what they wanted from this? Has the golf community moved on to something else?

    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I bolded the big group of each set.  Most beneficial with the weather Round 1: No. 1 tee, Round 2: No. 10 tee 7:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m.: Mark Hubbard, Thorbjørn Olesen, Mac Meissner 7:52 a.m., 12:42 p.m.: Bud Cauley, Vince Whaley, Chandler Phillips 8:04 a.m., 12:54 p.m.: Emiliano Grillo, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Max Greyserman 8:16 a.m., 1:06 p.m.: Kevin Yu, Cam Davis, Gary Woodland 8:28 a.m., 1:18 p.m.: Ricky Castillo, Ryan Gerard, Patrick Cantlay 8:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m.: Adam Schenk, Garrick Higgo, Matt McCarty 8:52 a.m., 1:42 p.m.: Brian Harman, Maverick McNealy, Davis Riley 9:04 a.m., 1:54 p.m.: Sami Valimaki, Lucas Glover, Matt Fitzpatrick 9:16 a.m., 2:06 p.m.: Michael Brennan, Harris English, J.T. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
