NYT reports that 40% of cases requiring hospitalization are for people 20-54 yrs old.  Apparently, in China the case skewed older.  But reports in Europe and the USA show more younger people with severe symptoms.  I think deaths still skew older, though.

I have two friends who were sent home when coworker's tested positive.  Today I learned that the head of my wife's organization--which has told employees to continue reporting to work--tested positive.

The number of cases are doubling every 48 hours or so.  It seems really silly to look at a snapshot early on in this process and conclude that this isn't very bad.

New York is currently reporting 4,100 cases, up 25% from yesterday.

You have to remember that these are the sorts of people who say that smoking can't be harmful because they know someone who is 90 who smokes.

I don't know anyone who has died of the flu. I don't know anyone who has been killed by a Takata airbag. This is the "logic" they use. You just have toi hope that they atren't in positions where they have and responsibility for anyone but themselves. It's actually quite frightening that they so willingly expose their ignorance. Especially when you assume that they are adults.

We have a flu vaccine. Even if the death rates are the same as the flu the total deaths will be much higher because we have no vaccine for this.

Jesus, people.

Every time I meet someone like this I always suggest they take a course in Logic.

Yep. It's also the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I’ve been told that some are calling this “the boomer remover.” These numbers may change that.

I have been hitting 8-PW in the back yard while my 201K evaporates.

Funny.  I had to look that one up in the urban dictionary.  I moved my 601K into cash mid-February.

Well, there you go.

Another genius willing to put his scientific logic on display.

I particularly love the part in bold. It's compelling, thought provoking and, ultimately, smashes the theory that we are in the midst of a major health crisis.

Just in case you haven't got it yet, when 4000 people descend upon a hospital that has facilities for 300, and this happens in every city in the world, amazingly, this might cause a few "issues".

Damn.  I was really looking forward to the full 24 hour break you promised from your inarticulate rants and name calling.

Ahhhh well, such is life.

It's no big deal. You'll be right.

Just out of curiosity, how would you describe someone who downplays the virus because he hasn't met anyone who's had it?

Just as the week before. Last Wednesday I had pool league and everyone was slapping hands, shaking hands before matches. Last Thursday I had a difference pool league and everyone was keeping their distance, washing or sanitizing hands after every game. That was a one day difference. This week there is no pool league at all, sit-down restaurants are doing carryout only, and there is next to no outside entertainment.

I have no idea what next Wednesday and Thursday will look like, but I am sure it will be even more isolated.

If that was the sole point he was making, I’d probably engage him without resorting to name calling rants.

If I didn’t feel that I could do that, I’d try to refrain from engaging at all.

But maybe that’s just me.

Maybe you should try to refrain from physically engaging strangers at the bar if you are on a refrain train
