To restrict people from outdoor activities like golf, tennis, and beach visits seems to fly in the face of common sense.  Activities don't get much safer. Grandstanding run amok.

Here’s a WaPo article about playing.

A good walk, unspoiled: Even with precautions, the sport offers four hours of escape when we could use it.

One of my pet peeves is people standing close to me when I swing. I guess I won't have to worry about that anymore.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

The shelter in place order for the Bay Area was recently eased a bit, and I think golf is one of the activities that will be allowed. Not sure which local courses are open yet, but I am ready to play. Decided to use some vacation days for a four day weekend, and hopefully play a bunch of golf!

My course in Missouri has been open Fri-Sun only, tee times from 7:30-1:00.

I see that starting tomorrow the tee times will go from 7:30 until 3:50.

Not busy . . . 41 tee times are available.

The courses that are open here (and that's most) are far busier than usual.  Hard to get a tee time most days.  Haven't had a hard time getting a tee time in many years, until the last month or so.

It's crazy busy here as well.

Just spent an hour on the phone trying to find a tee time for 3. Now, I'm going to be waking up early on a day off to drive to one of my least favorite courses because that's all I could get.

Yeah this phone call only tee time is a drag.  But at least we have courses open.  So can't complain too much.

Same here....and can't use my coupon book at most courses during these times too.

For some reason I woke up at 3AM last night so I grabbed my phone and made 5 tee time reservations over the next 10 days.  All online booking.  Simple, except I didn't get all my preferred day parts.

Are you sure you didn’t dream that? Or maybe you were sleep booking tee times. There has got to be a medical term for that!

Good one!  Sleep booking... I like that.  But I did wake up this morning with 5 email confirmations.  I did double book one tee time at two different courses... intentionally.  Will have to cancel one of the two dependent on how my twosome rounds out.

After a 10 month hiatus with two torn tendons in my elbow I'm not ready to take you on yet, Phil.  As soon as I'm able to whup you it's a deal.  Hit my new driver this morning at Dean's Barkley Village driving range.  He's been gone for 6 months, place is closed, but the gate was open and the grass was long.

Doesn't look like I'll be playing golf this weekend after all. I checked six different courses; some courses haven't updated their websites, yet, so I can't book a tee time for this weekend. One course has updated their website but they're showing no available tee times. I wonder if they're booked full already.

Not sure I want to wait that long.  You know, best way to get better is play with someone you know you could never beat ;)

Sounds like the ol' cluster f***.  Are you close enough to any of these courses that you could physically drive there and make a tee time reservation? And tell them to talk to their IT guy?

    • Day 105: mirror work today. Focused on not looping my hands at the top of the swing. Straight down.
    • Still working on the backswing a bit. Hand still gets away from the body, out towards the ball, and at A2 the club wants to roll over and get flat at A3. It's just very difficult to shallow from that position like I want. Which makes my downswing work impossible.  Backswing I have been playing around with the left leg straightening to start the backswing. It's like, a slight shove of the hips right with the left leg. Then just keep the flex in the right knee as I turn into it. I kind of like it. I never had a good swing trigger. It helps keep my left knee extended.  Yea, definitely feeling the hand path is traveling down the feet line, and straight up. A little bit of wrist rotation, and a lot more hinge sooner in the right wrist and elbow. I am trying to get the feeling that the arm hinging up then is the cause for the right shoulder to retract to finish the backswing. Club feels much more vertical at A3. I am trying to have my wrist fully hinged by then.  Feel the club and arms stop at A3.5 (my A4). If my arm collapses late, then I turn into that and I am pretty much screwed. The club and arms kind of have a floaty feeling, where they are just suspended in air for a bit, then drop.  Downswing I have been trying to think of a good visual for this mentally. I like the idea of my hands taking a wide arc to my right pocket, or I am taking the back of the hosel and trying to hit the ground behind my right foot.    Left knee stuff, just sooner.
    • Day 78 - 2026-03-10 Backswing work at the net with foam balls, a few real ball swings.
    • Day 525 - 2026-03-10 Got some work in before lessons today (was going to play after but it decided to POUR). Then like three minutes in later on.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 26) - Worked on weight shift feel using slap stick drill (hands about 6” apart - coming back weight on trail foot - down - thru weight on lead foot….moved it to hitting chips w/9i playing what I call “leap frog” - hit 1st about 10yds, the next a couple past the 1st, for about 6 balls total.  Love it as the lies change, the distances vary making each swing slightly different.
