As do I.   Of course in the land of perpetual cloudiness it wouldn't be a bad idea to do this year round!

I get plenty of sun in the late spring through early fall.

You live south of the Mitten!   The Great Lakes don't affect your weather as much.  While I'm being snide about the sunshine or lack there of, we do have less sunny days than most states.  In January, Weather Underground used the word "sun" 3 times the entire month and are only using "sun" 7 times in February.

It's really sad that this isn't common knowledge by now. I've been making the comment about Vitamin D for a while now.

Fauci and his crew should be talking about this every day.  If you Google "Fauci" and "Vitamin D" he talked about it once back in September.  Not good enough in my opinion.

Even getting a moderate amount of sun sometimes isn't enough.

-11°, six inches of snow on the ground, 6 more coming, and we have a 150-mile drive for our second shot in 3 days.

We may have to go the night before, to make sure we get there, and stay in a motel.

Be careful. Can they reschedule a few days out because of the conditions? You don't need to get the shot exactly 3 weeks or 4 weeks after the first dose.

Is there a special kind of vitamin D you need to take? Or is any vitamin D supplement from the local pharmacy good enough?

Unless the Vitamin D is bound to a fat source it might not be fully absorbed. That is why it is best time to take vitamins is after a meal.

I would take a mid to high quality vitamin.

I buy my vitamins from Thorne Research.

Vit D3 probably a better choice. You probably don’t need supplementation..Your calcium levels play a role as well....

I scotch tape it to my belly for an hour before ingesting it.  On a more serious natural supplement note I take a D3, 1000 IU's per day... to go with the D that is already in my multiple vitamin.

Sheesh... it's only 175% of my recommended daily dose.  Thank you for calling that to my attention.  I think I'll start cutting the 25mcg tablet in half... to go with the 10mcg in my multivitamin.

Vitamin D is very important for your health, but it is possible to get too much of it. This article explores 6 side effects of taking too much vitamin D.

Keep it under 4000 IU per day and you should be OK.

Well maybe ...but we don’t know what his level is. No sense in taking supplemental if there’s no deficiency.

Right now, I rather not take the chance. Over 40% of people are vitamin D deficient. Since winter has set in, and it is hard to get outside to get some sun. It wouldn't be a bad idea to supplement. Probably just a normal amount in a multi-vitamin is good. Something like 1000-2000 IU.

Fine...but having no idea what your levels actually are is taking a chance. We don’t blindly suggest supplements and go by ‘ should be ok.’ We get the levels and go from there.

Huh. It's almost like you're a doctor or something...   🙂
