Another PGA pro was killed by a falling tree earlier this year.

Yeah, here it is, back in June:

Justin Riegel, the head professional at Philmont Country Club, was expecting his first child with his girlfriend later this month.

Gary Player never considered this side of things.

Horrible stories.  Shows we should all savor every moment we have.

Awful. I hunt in tree stands every year, and hear stories of hunters falling out of trees or trees falling. Never heard of a golf pro getting killed by a falling tree until now.  Very sad and doing a peaceful, not-contact sport.

Should I be ashamed of myself for chuckling at your Gary Player comment.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I did a bit for making it.

I’ve always been the guy that makes mildly inappropriate jokes at funerals and stuff though. 😛

I'm wary of walking under trees especially after a storm. These stories remind me of the Google employee who was struck by a falling branch in Central Park, he just had a kid. I think he recovered from a coma though, but not 100%. Carpe diem.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

During wind storms at my course, I routinely hear trees falling. It’s very scary. I was hitting balls during one wind storm and a 5ft branch landed straight up, a couple inches behind an older lady. Not sure what damage it would have done, but she left after that.

There are about six trees on that course that I wouldn't mind them falling. In the middle of the night, of course. 😁

Deep condolences. We had a local pro pass away at Cahoon plantation back in 2011 when a lawn sprayer rolled back on him while working in a sand trap. Young fella in early 30s with young family. Awful.

Yeah, that was a sad day. Justin was a good guy, well known in the district.

    • We do not buy extended warranties. We will use one of our credit cards for the purchase that extends the warranty "x 2". Our thoughts are: a. if the item is a lemon, it will likely break right away and we can attempt to apply the original warranty or credit card extension. b. over the long haul, we will probably save more money by not purchasing the extended warranty and fixing/junking broken items out of our own pocket. The important thing is to keep some records of purchases so one may make a claim under the manufacturer's warranty. I recently sent back some Footjoy shoes for leaking and Footjoy did a reat job of making the claim process work very well. I had the original receipt, warrant info and box. Easy peasy.
