Funny to see this place on here...

I lived in Richmond for almost 10yrs up to 2014 and played this course quite a bit until I moved to NY as it was my regular playing partner's favourite area course. Has some nice interesting holes and I certainly wouldn't classify it as hard. For a woodland course it does incorporate some links-esque feeling on some holes rather well!

Within a few miles of Royal New Kent there are several other courses of similar style; Brickshire and Viniterra being the closest.

The local CBS TV station in Richmond had a screaming deal each year where for $150 you got to play six local courses (including a cart!) and these three were always included. The first year I did it the River Course at Kingsmill (that was an LPGA tour course and former PGA tour course) was included and that would have been $180 on its own!

I still travel to Richmond regularly for work and see someone else here is a local but if anyone wants any pointers just shout.

Unfortunately I'm already travelling elsewhere in the country, otherwise I'd be sorely tempted.

RNK is a skip from RIC airport...

My son and I are interested.  I gotta check with the significant other.  Also, my son just had his appendix removed, so he'll be rusty and sore.  But it ought to be fun, and I've heard great things about the course.

Two weeks is plenty of time to heal up. We'd be happy to have you!

Possible for me to bring a non-TST buddy? Not sure how that will affect numbers

Not positive he can make it, but wanted to get a feel from the group first

I think that’s fine as week-of additions. Put him on the waiting list if he’s able to come. Ideally it’s TST people.

Or get him to register and make a few posts. 🙂

    • Probably. Although some teens chose to defy their parents and get immunized. Less likely, I'm guessing, with younger kids.
    • Probably will fall along the lines of what their parents chose to do.
    • As someone who did this last summer and then had a tantalizing but disappointing season this year, remember that you need time to make the major mechanical adjustments sink in but then you also need time to learn how to hit shots with those new mechanics. Or at least I did (after doing all my mechanics work into a net). On your swing, it isn't nearly wide enough at the top. Among other things, that makes it way harder to shallow the club on the down swing. And it's really difficult to change from a steep to a shallow down swing regardless! At the top your right arm should be making at most an 80˚ angle. And many (most?) are closer to 90˚. The drill that got me over the hump was to take a kids swim floaty and put it just above my elbow such that at 90˚ I was solidly starting to squeeze it and it felt like a major squeeze if I tried to close my elbow any more than that. Then you'll really feel it in your swing when you get narrow and fold your elbow at the top. It'll feel like you're taking like 1/2 swings in order not to fold too much.
    • I'm not giving up the fight. We can change it back.
