According to GC, playing the 18th hole down the 9th fairway was done by amateur Jeevan Sihota during all 3 rounds of last year's AJGA Junior Players in September.  Based on their last minute change, the tour is obviously responding to Bryson's comments and nipping this in the bud before he could try it in the practice rounds.

No doubt they reacted to Bryson stating it out loud, but I think they made the decision because of other factors.  Consider that in order to hit a shot like that, you would need to go directly over a grandstand and a whole bunch of fans standing near the 9th fairway/green. Plus, there are quite a few players who have the length to hit a shot like that, but it just takes one mishit to make a mess

There's an exciting new aspect now to the PGA Tour... it's the included Long Drive contest.  Maybe, for drama's sake, and more TV eyes, they should clear that area left of 18 and let the boys have at it.  Unless it totally interferes with golfers on #9.

Play is already slow enough on the Tour, having to wait for two different groups to clear the fairway (including one that has to make their way back around the lake through the crowds/grandstands somehow) would definitely only serve to make things worse. Plus now you need extra spotters with radios to tell people on the 18th if it's safe to hit to the 9th, since it's a blind shot for them, and they might themselves be waiting for that fairway to clear when the 18th fairway is wide open for them to play.

Even ignoring the safety aspect this ruling would make sense solely from the logistics of a group making their way around to the 9th fairway from the 18th tee, then from the 9th fairway to the 18th green. Those areas are usually packed with either grandstands or spectators already, so you'd have to change the whole setup of the tournament infrastructure to accommodate that one tee shot a single player may or may not make (or allow that one player to dramatically slow down play if he tries it).

There are bits of conversation here and there on Every Shot Live that would definitely be censored if it were being monitored. Love hearing the everyday talk unfiltered.

I also see Craig Perks announcing. I wonder if many of the younger audience is like, who the hell is Craig Perks? 😁

Good point.  I'm surprised there haven't been more disasters the way they let fans line up on each side of a tee box, like the 18th at The Masters.  It also blows my mind the way fans give a bomber a narrow chute when he is hitting a recovery shot after a huge miss; how do they think he got there in the first place?  There's a youtube video of Tom Kite hitting a fan twice in a row with what looks like a hard ground ball to third (I'm guessing practice round reload?)  A line drive could kill someone.

Just saw Adam Scott do five fingers, AE.

These are not sparse crowds.

Some dude tried to pick up wayward drive, got yelled at by marshal.

This Every Shot Live would be awesome if I could easily switch between groups.

It's a feature with PGA Tour Live only for selected tournaments like this one. Unfortunately not with Amazon though. I've been reading about problems with the website and streaming, like it cut out completely for me at 1PM, so this stuff is undercooked.

It's free just for today if you have a PGA Tour Live account, but you have to pay for it afterwards.

Amazing how stupid some can be. The one thing for certain not to touch at a golf tournament is ...a golf ball. Unless it’s handed to you....

Amazingly stupid as well are the galleries locating themselves on either side of the fairway 300 yards off the tee. A marque group shows up, rip their drives off line a bit and these gallery members are diddling about not even watching. And they get hit by a stray golf ball.

They just said that John Cook played 67 tournament rounds here and never once found the water at 17.  Based on what we saw today, that's pretty amazing!

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
