The Worst Person With Whom You've Ever Been Paired…

You gotta at least pretend to play by the rules.  Sounds like those guys were blatant.  At a minimum they should have refused collecting any skins.

It's online scoring, so we don't know until they are posted.  They were reported by pretty much everyone in the league, and they stopped coming.

About 20 years ago I played several rounds with my then boss.  He cheated constantly.  He was also one of those guys who shot much lower scores on vacation, out of town, etc...It was both eye-opening and disappointing.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Guy who consistently gave me the wrong score on certain holes. Then again, I'm sure you have all experienced this. Lucky enough not to have experienced some of the others mentioned in this thread!

Yeah, it's amazing how many people can make a double bogey after slicing two OB or dunking three in the pond.

I have a friend of a friend of a friend ... (Did, I get that right? ... Yeah, I think so.) Anyway, he does this all the time.

He keeps a "best case" kind of score. So, his handicap is what we call a vanity-cap.

Then every year at the tournament we play he laments his low handicap.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

One of the members in my club is not liked by the majority of the members, but recently he started to quit after 9 holes when all the players plays 18 holes unless something really important came up. Is not like he can't play more than 9 and he is open about it, he just plays 9 and make a fake excuse to leave.
I teed up with him a couple of times and effectively he walked away after 9 holes, leaving me playing in a twosome or threesome for the rest of the round having to wait a lot to the foursomes in front.

One weekend I was paired with him and two more guys, a couple of days before those guys changed their tee time so I was alone in the line with him. I changed my tee time and sent him a message letting him know so he was able to change his tee time.
I wasn't going to risk playing with him and be alone after 9 holes. He figured out why I changed my tee time and asked me if I was willing to play with him since he was going to play the full round this time. Didn't bother to respond his text.

He likes to use this phrase. "Well, normally I would have been able to hit that ball here, so I'm not going to count that shot." or "That pin placement is ridiculous, so I would normally have made a two putt there so I'm putting down a par." or "Normally, I'd make that putt so I'm just going to card it as made."

That is precious.  Does he ever say, "That pin position is too easy, so I'm going to add a stroke to my score on the hole."?

Oddly, no. He doesn't ever say that.

He also doesn't say Oh, that was a lucky bounce. I'm going to put the ball OB, take a stroke and retee. Go figure?

Honestly, as bad or laughable vanity cappers are, In my experience, sandbaggers are straight up scum. I was paired up with one at a net VSGA event who was 17 on the books and shot 75 at the Cascades course to take the 80 men event. $120 credit first prize.

The organizer called his home club to check, but the cap checked out ok. BS. That pissed off a lot of folks.

I revived this thread because I had previously said I had never really played golf with someone too bad. Unfortunately, that all changed with my pairing at my city tournament recently. I was paired the first two days with the biggest asshole I have ever met. Just a complete jerk. Nothing nice to say, wouldn't help look for errant shots, blamed me for missing a short putt because he could "feel me" being anxious to walk in to putt out my ball. Actually laughed and showed excitement when myself and the other guy in our group hit bad shots. I even caught him giving a fist pump when our third missed a putt.

The whole thing boiled over when I hit a ball left into a penalty area on the 17th hole the first round. I hit a hook and we all saw it head left and end in the penalty area. We get up to where me ball entered the P.A. and I ask him and the other guy in our threesome where they thought my ball entered. He goes, "right here so that your next shot is blocked by that tree." I tell him that he cannot choose where my ball entered the P.A. by making sure I don't have a next shot, plus (as you can see on the picture) it would have been impossible for my ball to cross there because of the way they drew the boundary. There were only two possible places my ball could have crossed the boundary,  so I dropped at the one farthest from the hole and hit a fantastic hybrid about 5 feet from the flag. I make par and he accuses me of cheating because I didn't drop behind the tree.

I've since found out he's been kicked out of several golf associations around town for being such an ass. Not hard to believe I tell you.

Who gives birth to these people?!

  • Funny 2

I've had a couple doozies from years past.  Generally these days all I get are blatant cheaters and sandbaggers.   Is that progress?  Maybe.

One guy was from my time living in NJ.  Guy was a real hothead and also had very little patience.  He was one of the group of singles that would usually hang out on weekends and wait to get paired together.  On one particular day he was right behind me.   He hit into me a couple of times, both while walking from the green and in the fairway.  I turned around after the 2nd or 3rd time and put my hands in a "what's up?" motion.   Didn't yell or get angry.   He started yelling at me.   He hit into our group again on 15 so I stopped putting the pins back in the hole so he couldn't see where the hole was on approach.  17 and 18 he was screaming at me from the fairway.   I ran to my car to avoid a confrontation when I was done, thinking that was the end of it.   I never saw him again, but a couple of months later he was banned from all county courses for getting mad and tipping a golf cart over.  He wasn't technically paired with me that day, but he was before that and it was an exercise in patience putting up with him.
