I think a topgolf like competition would be neat. I certainly don’t want it to replace what we have now. But, it would appeal to younger generations.

Thats like fixing a broken arm with a band-aid.  Doesn't touch the root of the problem, and doesn't really make anything better.  Maybe it saves you a little time?  But in exchange it would take away the ability to watch anything live, and you still only get to see such a small amount of the actual shots on the course.  The coverage itself is what needs fixed

Saves me A LOT of time. The DVR lets me control what I want to see. Instead of watching someone read a putt and shuffle into their stance for 2 minutes, I can FF right to the putt. Most 4-hour golf broadcasts in real time are shear torture. That's why so many people find golf boring to watch. And if I want to see that hole-out from the fairway, I don't need to watch it six times.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are launching a tech-infused golf league in partnership with the PGA Tour that will have players competing on six three-man teams in 15 regular-season matches and a playoff starting in January...

Doesn't seem all that interesting to me, but maybe it will garner the attention of others.

LIV: Check out our fresh new format for competitive golf

Tiger and Rory: Hold my beer

Okay now this PGAT player suspension looks even worse than it did before. You can't play on that competing tour because we partnered with our big cats on a different one.

I hope this isn't a mega flop, I can imagine it being pretty cool. Can also imagine it being pretty stupid.

I think the PGA Tour had a skills challenge a while ago, but I really enjoyed that.

We will never know the positive or negative results of all of this until it happens. There are tons of examples of this in other areas. Like moves, plenty of movies have been written off by big production companies because a visionary idea can't be accurately assessed monetarily.

There are a few things I would enjoy. Different types of formats, like team matches. IDK, I am interested in seeing how all this plays out.

Yeah, I don't even know what "The arena is actually in space."  let alone why it would mean the idea would get so much hate.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I can see this being interesting for a short time but eventually need the real thing.  I like the slam dunk events but not too frequently.  Also some of this sounds like the Pro Bowl or Allstar Game but those are not the Super Bowl or World Series.

do need to learn more before final judgement.

I don’t like what it appears to be with the minimal detail. However, I’d rather watch Tiger, Rory, JT, et al go bowling than to watch mostly wash ups and nobodies play in the silly LIV matches.

The twitter comments are full of it already. I think it will be cool, but easy to see why its going to get hate - it looks like a game show set. Just need Steve Harvey up there asking questions.

Hey look on the brightside, Tiger will be able to play in it. No walking, one round, hit and giggle golf. Nike must be thrilled!

Thing is, it's not necessarily about existing golf fans.

It's probably more about the TopGolf golfer, the video game golfer, etc.

People younger than many of us.

At the end of the day, its likely this is not going to be my thing.  I'll tune into the first one and see, its an extra day of golf on TV if nothing else.  but I think the important thing is that its not taking away from the Tour.  Its not taking players away, its not taking tournaments away, its just there as its own thing, so seems perfectly fine to let them have their fun and see what it turns into

    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.
