Yes I did, and it talks about 30% few commercial breaks to allow for @ 30% more actual golf coverage.  It says nothing about limiting the other "Fluff" or "Personal Interest" items often included in coverage that are not commercials but do take time away from showing the actual golf.

Let me correct myself, I did miss the part about cutting promos & pre-recorded segments.  Thanks for pointing it out.

@jxdama, sorry but I'm going to respect the topic integrity from here on. I believe there is a thread somewhere to discuss our posts.

It  makes a huge difference. Take that  joke par 5 last  week in the Canadian. Should  be a  500 yard  par  4.  If you take  a  joke par 5 where you can hit an IRON off the tee and turn it  into a  long  par 4 then it forces the  player to hit  driver.

You’re wrong.

They’d employ the best strategy for the lowest average score. Period. Par doesn’t change that.

Last warning, this topic is about the U.S. Open. Not the Canadian Open or whether par matters.

Ready for TV Coverage but have watched the past few minutes on the USGA site and I am really liking this course.  #6 is a great risk-rewards hold.  I've only watched 1 group but they all used irons to lay-up 80(ish) yards out then pitched onto a narow green..

So glad coverage on USA just started.

Let’s start the west coast golf drinking game. Take a swig every time they say ‘marine layer’ instead of fog. The said it in the first 2 minutes.

Taking 5 shots on a 100 yard hole is bad, but on a 600 yard hole is good or is brilliant on a 1000 yard hole (if such holes exist).

So yes, par matters

Expand

It really doesn't. Par is only a guideline for scratch players based normally in length. The idea is to shoot the lowest score in any given hole regardless the assigned Par.

I don't remember if this apply to tiger or other know professional player, but his dad when he was young, used to call every hole with an inflated par just for him. So hole 1 was a par 8 just because his dad knew he was able to reach the green in 6 shots (+2 putts). Every time he was able to reach the green in less strokes his dad would change the par until he was able to hit the green in regulation making the hole in a par 4 as it was for the regular members. Par is just a convenient number, a guideline nothing more.

There's no single player in the PGA tour (or any given tour) that would play a hole differently just because the Par is different.

Ups.. Off topic...

Rooting for the Argentine Players of course. Spith as always and want to see how Karl Vilips faces this challenge. ( Lots of youtube videos of his early years ) Glad to see that he finally made it to big tournaments.

Scores seem to be all over the board.  Leader @ -6 (through 12) and current last @ +7 (through 11).

I  have to say this  is a  major  disappoinment. -7 the  lead  in the first round  of the  US OPEN? At one time this was a true test  of  golf on a difficult  course. I read where some were claiming the  lack of rough was a good thing. I guess so if you want a  defenseless  course with little  or  no obstacles. Please do something to toughen this thing  up overnight. No way should a US OPEN  have scores this  low. At  least  my pick to win, Scheffler, is  on the  board.

Same dumb schtick since joining.

Hey, i understand some people just  like seeing  birdie after  birdie. A pro is supposed to be the  best. At least  once a year we should  be able to see pros figuring  out  how to make a  par. As far  as the barranca goes its falling flat as an obstacle unless you really  get unlucky.

    • Day 24 (14 Feb 25) - Played with the l Friday men’s group (only 7 of us today - temps in the low 40’s to start and N-NW winds gusting to 10-15 mph).  It was course management front and center type of day.  Had ample opportunities to work from some tough lies, etc.  Overall an okay round -  the bigger struggle was with the putter (several three putts and one four - ugggly offset by one terrific 60’ putt for birdie).  Spent some time after the round chipping on the practice green.
    • Day 8; 2/14/2025 Had a lesson with Yoda today. ... He suggested I take up tennis. 😂
    • Day 7: 2/14/25 Putting through 50 mm gates from 11”. Made the first 42 before hitting 2 gates in a row, then made 9 consecutive putts.    Followed with a Par 4 success speed training workout and hit 113 mph several times.
    • Personally, I can't stand the announcers bias to some players over others. One player hits it to 8 feet and it's "What a spectacular shot from Scotty Scheffler"! Then somebody else...not a favorite... hits a shot to 4 feet and they say something like "well he needs a few more of those if wants a chance on the weekend". Azinger was the worst at gushing over his favorites but now it's every announcer.
    • A lot of people just mute the announcers these days. 🙂
