Caught up with Silicon Valley. This show is so funny. And Ned from Groundhog Day is in it now. Jesus Christ, CEO of the world. Lol.

These last two episodes of Game of Thrones, imho, have been very satisfying. That one scene in the first episode, where pledges were made, I was getting dusty - rewatched that several times. And in the last episode, that flashback was immensely satisfying.

Night Manager has a very cool opening credits sequence. The UK show isn't here yet, but it's John la Carre, slow burn spy miniseries. Should be really good.

Is this going to hit the U.S.?  Would be interested.

Wife and I started watching Lucifer.  Has some cliche cop show stuff but still entertaining the guy playing satan seems to revel in playing the role and is funny as hell.

Also started The Path (Hulu original) with Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman Breaking Bad).  Two episodes in and can see this series has potential.

I'm not sure about the States, but in Canada it's airing on AMC.

Recently got around to starting Marco Polo on Netflix.  It's seems decent to good so far.

Im liking GOT, too.  Even though the Mountain looks silly, I giggled at him killing that loudmouth in the alley.

The Night Manager is already 2 episodes in. I love it. If you like John le Carre, you'll like it.

Hulu's 11.22.63 was ok. It wasn't as interesting as its premise.

Underground, the slave escape drama, is good. It was a little more nuanced in the beginning before the chase started, but covers new ground that Roots and other slavery dramas didn't.

Silicon Valley and Veep are fun as always.

Holy cow. Game of Thrones is killing it this season. Read the books, but far from an expert, forgot a lot of what happened, but it's so satisfying to see these loose ends beginning to get tied up. I jumped up and fist pumped at the beginning scene and then got dusty. And the end. Did not expect that. Thought the last couple of seasons were weak, but this season is like when you can't stop reading the end of a book that's totally got you mesmerized. Characters be attaining some f**king agency.

Game of Thrones just stabbed me in the heart and twisted and twisted the knife over and over again. That was just utterly devastating. Props to GRRM.

Yeah, that final scene was very powerful.  I really love how you have no idea what's going to happen each episode.

One thing that's been lingering in my mind is that GOT may end up ending like The Dark Tower series.  I really hope it doesn't.

This year on broadcast television the best shows I've watched were Quantico, Blindspot and The Black List.

Have no idea what's going on in Preacher, but I'm piqued. Hope all these unrelated threads come together somehow.

HBO's Westworld looks promising based on the latest trailer.

I haven't kept up on any TV series at all in the past decade.

I might be more inclined to just binge watch TV shows after they are finished.

About a decade to a decade and a half ago is when the tv landscape started to shift to what it has become today. It's pretty amazing living through the changes. From a time when the post analysis revolved around the workplace water cooler, which transitioned to online discussion boards and now to social media and podcasting and video post game analysis. You can find post analysis on Game of Thrones on YouTube a couple of hours after the broadcast. LOST was the big game changer that made the internet the world's water cooler.

Also the accessibility of foreign shows as well - UK, Northern Europe, France, Belgium, Australia, Israel, (Homeland was based on Prisoners of War), etc...

There are just way too many shows now, even if all you did was watch tv during your waking hours. I have a hard enough time keeping up with Game of Thrones alone. Did you know they remade Roots? There are two tv shows centered on OJ Simpson.

What I see now is there's just no end in sight of good to very good shows, but there just aren't that many great shows. The only shows I can say that have really knocked me off my feet recently are The Leftovers. Game of Thrones and Utopia (UK).

Fundamentally, we all like to be told a good story, which for me, was reading fiction. I still read fiction, but serial tv has replaced a good bit of it as much as I rue not reading as much. But I think television has become a much more challenging medium than in its old boob tube days.

Where tv takes us in the future, in terms of the "best" tv out there, how it evolves, will be interesting to witness.

    • I have won the net division of the 2024 William Anderson Match Play Championships at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
    • I won the net division of the match play tournament. Yesterday was the semifinals and my opponent conceded the round to me on the 2nd hole because he knew he would be unavailable for the final today. I got lucky there and got a bye into the finals. We did end up playing our match as an exhibition and I would have lost. It was the worst round of the tournament for me and I think knowing that the match didn't matter might have been a factor. I'll write up a blog post about the whole experience at some point. Today I won, 3&1. My opponent and I halved the first three holes much to his credit. I was striping it and he just kept scrambling and hanging in there. We both blew up on the par 3 4th hole but I ended up taking that one by holing an 8-footer for double bogey. I went up 2 after he put two in the penalty area on #5 and promptly gave that hole back by putting my tee shot into the penalty area on #6 by a foot. It's important to note that most of the penalty areas on this course are deemed environmentally sensitive areas and we are not allowed to enter or play shots out of them. So even though I physically was able to play a shot from where I was on #6, I could not, by rule. I followed that by winning #7, making a 25' birdie putt and finished the front 9 3 up after he had some bunker trouble on #9. I went up 4 by winning #11 (we both sucked on that hole but he missed the putt to halve). On #12 we both hit the green with our tee shots. He hit his first putt past the hole and I lagged mine inside of 4' with an uphill putt for par. His putt for par was too long again, just inside of mine but definitely outside of gimme range. I gave him that one for bogey. I felt at the time, being 4 up, that I didn't want to win the hole because he ends up missing a 3-footer and fourputted or something. I wanted to win the hole by making my par putt. I did not. He probably would have made the putt anyway (he's not me after all, and he made everything in that range all day) but it seemed like the sporting thing to do at the time. He was genuinely surprised I gave it to him, butI felt good about it. Then it almost bit me in the ass as he started to mount a comeback. We halved #13 after he made a great up & down and he took #14 with a long par putt. He also won #15 with a 5' birdie putt. We halved #16 with a pair of bogeys after he put his tee shot in the water and I missed a 4-footer for the win. We got to #17 and I was still 2 up. He hit his tee shot just off the back of the green to an extended apron area short of the back bunker and I put mine on the green pin high but 30' away. He was actually closer so I played first and hit it within a foot for par. He didn't hole out for birdie which sealed the match and ended up making bogey on the hole. With the pressure off, we both played the par 5 #18 well. He played it as a three shot hole like a normal person and hit it to 8' and two-putted for par. I striped my drive and ended up with a downhill lie to an uphill approach like 180 yards out and gave myself the green light to go for it in two. Thin hooked it into thick rough to the left of the green with a bunker in between and hit a high flop to 4', probably my best shot of the day. Made the birdie putt.
