Taking the Lord's name in vain is a violation of one of the ten commandments. To those not tainted by the socialistic political correctness this is not as big a deal as the slang term for intercourse. Sorry! There is no commandment to not say the F bomb so it is illogical to consider it worse than a violation of one of the ten commandments. For those ignorant of the commandments, thou shalt no lie if one also. Yet I think there are a bunch of liars out there in this golfing land. It is worse to lie than to say the F bomb. Adultery is another of those commandment thingies. Tiger being a Buddist was able to violate a whole bunch of those commandments. Tiger can say F bombs but I don't want him to use Jesus Christ but that isn't his God. Buddah damn it would be more appropriate for him.

What is hysterical to me is that the F bomb, is actually an acronim developed by the Puritains.

Most parents wouldn't think twice about plopping their kid in front of SpongeBob but to let a golfer say something is blasphemy! Just watch it with the mute button on.

I didn't realize SpongeBob was full of cursing, that's news to me. I'm also not sure where you got me saying "blasphemy" anywhere in my post. There's pretty big difference between not wanting my 3 and 5 year old to start saying words they're not ready for and blasphemy.

I heard that too and it kind of surprised me, although I barely even hear it due to how much of it we hear in daily life. It was just surprising to heard it while watching golf.

I thought that after the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident, live events, specifically sporting events (although I remember other live events like TV award ceremonies doing the same thing), had to be broadcast on a brief (3 to 5 second) delay so that the feed could be muted/switched in real time to avoid potentially obscene material. I don't know what kind of "decency rules" which channels have to comply with, though. I heard it on the Golf Channel, I wonder if it would've made it through on CBS. The only obscenities I've heard from players has been when I was watching the GC, maybe primary channels like CBS go to greater lengths to avoid obscenities. Anyone know anything about this?

Man I love the debate I started here! To clarify my position, I am neither an over the top "bible beater" nor a saint, I work in collegiate sports and hear/say my fair share of profanity, but I leave that language at work when I come home to the wife and daughter. Have I ever cursed on a golf course in anger, sure! But I was raised not to use the lords name in vain, so JC/GDs, those bother me much more than an occasional f-bomb. (ocassional is once a round, if that in my book). Besides, why tick off the man upstairs, it wasn't his fault I shanked my pitching wedge into the creek!

I golf because I enjoy it but also because I want to improve/play well so I do get angry when I don't, but the last 2 years I have had a goal of not getting mad at myself on the course, and I'm a better golfer and person for it, I just think some people need more self discipline. (I won't launch into my kids these days have no respect speech now, but I see so many kids curse at/back talk coaches/teachers now, I would have never thought of doing that!).

But glad to see people sharing their opinions, and no one really being a jerk about their "opinion" on a topic!

The occasional bad word is ok, many per round? Well thats not. I think the worst is the throwing of clubs and temper tantrums. I like to watch with my son and its got to the point that we count how many times Woods swears, cries, throws clubs and has a tantrum. Pathetic.

I must be weird... I don't throw clubs or swear on our field.

Me neither, but maybe because I'm playing with my Dad's irons (he passed away) and I once slammed my wedge into the turf after hitting one poorly, and then I was ticked at myself all night for not respecting his things.

I guess the whole swearing is a big deal/not a big deal just depends on how you were raised. I never heard my dad swear on a golf course in the 10 years I played golf with him, but then again he never swore at home either. I definitely need to work on that since I am starting a family now, but I shot the worst round in about 3 years today, shanking balls all over the place this morning and I kept my cool. Throwing your clubs/swearing loudly have no place in golf..........now I'm all for ripping my own butt under my breath as I'm walking to my ball, but yelling GD/JC/F*** as soon as your ball starts to slice, that's bush league, PGA, local tourney, or a 25 handicapper. Some grandpa could have his 9 yr old grandson nearby and they might not appreciate it

He's not but he does do things that I wouldn't want to be doing. That was also a play on your "sponge" comment. The blasphemy was about grown ups swearing, big deal. It's not like you hear it every single shot on the golf telecast anyway. If your watching it on cable, then I suppose the laws are that they don't have to delay anything. Your kid could likely hear it from you or your family or even the neighbor. It's the constant stuff that would be offensive and that is when "Dad" would be right to step in. Once in a blue moon, I say get over it.

People post Generation-X use swear words in a different way than previous generations... pretty much Tiger's age and below. Not sure how old all you guys are that have big problems hearing these cuss words, but I hear them everywhere and use them more than I'd like to admit (I am 36). Even the F-bomb isn't a big deal to younger generations like it used to be. This ain't Mayberry anymore. Sad, but true.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

Golf courses in general have probably heard more bad language than most other physical locations barring dockyards and military basic training camps. Why should the pros be any different than the rest of us in that regard?

Spongebob is okay. It's that little bast*** Plankton you gotta watch out for. And Squidward - who pi$$ed in that guys corn flakes. Geeze man, if it wasn't for Spongebob and his culinary gift, that whole place would be outta business.

Only in the U.S. is saying a bad word a big deal, but 40 people being killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber barely qualifies as a blurb on the news ticker. We won't show a nipple, but the news networks showed the footage of Iraqis being shot to death. Janet Jackson's boob got more coverage than the shooting rampage in Connecticut. Our priorities are pretty f&%$ed to put it one way.

If you don't cuss, you're not playing golf my friends, plain and simple. It's a frustrating game, and it will lead you to get really mad. The better you get, the more mad you get. The guys on the PGA tour are playing at a level most of us could never fathom, and to screw up with the stakes that high, you're going to get mad. So, here's a hint, don't watch golf with your kids if you're really that sensitive, but your kids are going to learn those words somewhere, and they're going to use them. Be glad if all your kid does is cuss, and not torture animals and bully other kids.

    • At address? I think so. Downswing and through? IDK. I doubt if a whole lot of golfers, if any at all, deliberately think "I have a 9-iron so I need to bend half an inch more through the downswing compared to my 8 iron".

    • I am listening to 23rd Street.  24 hours a day of cars, trucks, planes, sirens, and neighbors who start lawn mowers at 6:30am. I try to drown it out with 7,600 WAVE music files on a huge USB drive.  Mostly 1950's through 1990's music.
    • Thanks! Evolvr, for sure. My indoors setup is pretty close to ready. I want to add a few more lights as it's a pretty dark place to begin with (old barn). Plan to use my iPhone 14 Pro, 720p 240 FPS. I think I got a tripod somewhere, but I nail everything down so I'll make a small box I can just plop the phone into. That way I know it's always in the same spot and level. How does the setup look in terms of angles and stuff.  I saw that topic and bookmarked it for later. A technique where you want the head to move forward and down? I've been doing that for twenty years! (not on purpose) 😛 Looks fun, I'll certainly try it out. £7000. That's certainly "down the line". What would be a good price? Thanks. I'll probably hold off until at least winter comes and see where we're living at that point. For the next six months I'll combine indoor practice with the range, which helps.
