I had no idea they still made trains that looked like that. The only course that I have ever played that is near a train track that is in use (as far as I know) is Leo J Martin in Weston, MA. Luckily it has never gone by in my swing. I do sleep near an Amtrack though. That's loud. And it seems like they blow the horns for no reason.

I don't see the problem. It's the noises that come out of nowhere that surprise, not the steady noises.

Trains blow their wistles in a number of different ways... signaling many different things... but mostly it means: Here I come, get out of my way or get Smushed... Grew up just outside of NYC.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

Chambers Bay has a train track that goes by literally right next to the entire course. Same train track that runs right by my office building and shakes the building up a bit when it goes by.

thats nothing compared to hitting off a tee next to someones yard when they let their two german sheppard gaurd dogs out right when I start my swing. That was crazy

No kidding. Personally, I think it's kind of neat.

I agree. This particular "distraction" wouldn't bother me.

Actually this is a town attraction. They have 1 hr to 5 hr train rides that also serve lunch. The train runs directly in front of the #1 tee box and often stops in front of it for a bit, not too long but if you've tee'd off you have to wait until it moves before you can go to your golf ball. This train is only here temporarily, probably for two weeks and more noisy than the others.

Nothing compared to when my grandpa and I played at the El Toro Marine base every weekend. Especially during the first Iraq war when fully loaded cargo planes would blast off one after another.

Even on a normal day it was crazy when the F15s would do touch and goes all day long. Crazy in a good way. Loud but made me proud!

On one par 5 they would come right over you VERY low on final approach and when they took off you could feel the jet wash! Great memories too bad the base was closed down.

It was distracting because I wanted to watch it instead of pay attention to my putting.

Gotcha.

That train kind of reminds me of the train from the movie, Stand by Me. (hopefully I'm not aging myself too bad with that movie reference). I would probably stop to look at it too.

If your over the putt and someone yells something from a car just step back from the putt. Nothing says you have to hit it after being aggitated.

Sounds don't get me, its visual things, like a leaf blowing across the line, or a shadow moving, things like that get me more.

I've always found that gunfire is a bit distracting during my putting stroke.

I played a course a couple times in Lockport, NY that was near an outdoor shooting range. Definitely distracting at first, then I felt like I was golfing near a Revolutionary War battle.
