Thought?

At his current points per event pace, Tiger will be out of the top 10 soon enough.

Probably, but I don't care one way or the other.  In fact, I'd prefer a constant battle between the 5 or 6 best golfers for the top spot.

Personally I don't like how the world rankings are done and I think he should much lower than 3.  I hope it continues to be a battle at the top as there are a number of strong young players that I would like to see climb that ranking ladder.  Kaymer should be #1 right now.  If he keeps this up, he's going to be in that top spot discussions for a LONG time.  10 victories in his first 100 tournaments....not even Monty had that many.  I believe they said he only had one by then.

More interesting than who's exactly where, I think, is a broader look at the composition of the current rankings. The top 20 now includes 10 Euros, 6 Americans and 4 South Africans. There are 17 Americans in the top 50 and 16 Europeans. The global game is pretty well-balanced.

Absolutely.  It makes it more competitive and entertaining.

I think we will see the trends of Europe rising, whilst America falls, and the ROW remaining relatively constant, continuing for the foreseeable future.I expect Europe to have the Top 5 golfers by the end of the year (Westwood; Kaymer; McDowell; McIlroy; and one from Casey; Poulter; Donald). Not sure USA will even have on in Top 10 (Furyk and Stricker are over the hill; Mickleson is completely out of form and Tiger needs to win loads just to maintain his position). Given the way the World Rankings work, I reckon Tiger will finish the year around #10 - #15 in the world.

I think he will be in for some competition this year. I believe he will win multiple times this season, but so will Kaymer and Westwood.

Fedex Cup is a lottery. It is not a measure of the best player on the PGA tour, just ridiculous end to the seaon to maintain the short attention span of most of the US golf viewers ...a few of the European players said they were bored by it ....

Even Latest Golf Digest magazine ranked Martin Kaymer as the World Player of the Year.   Make sense cause Tiger didn't win anything last year.

I just hope he can be back in shape this year and putting a good show on the course.   It's just excting to see Tiger plays....

I think Tiger moving down to 3rd is great as it creates drama for this season!

We all should be jumping up and down now that Tiger has a large amount legitimate competition to go up against.  Hopefully, he will prove himself once again which for me, has me super excited for this golf season.

I was surprised at how many of the top-ranked Euro's honed their games at American universities. It's a notable list: Tim Clark, Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell and Paul Casey to name just a few in the top 20.

    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
