Talk is now that he just quit because he was "Stinkin Up" the place.  He was observed taking two steps at a time into the scorer's room, and easily walking to and getting into his car.  I said it on another forum on that infamous "Turkey Day", C'est Fini.  I believed it then, I believe it now!

I don't know what you mean by a ruse.  I do believe he re-injured himself but if he was playing competitively he might have taken some advil and toughed through it.  Since he was playing poorly he made a decision to shut it down and use the time to heal rather than risk additional injury.   I don't see anyone questioning Ogilvy or Clarks injury but they weren't playing well when they quit, so would their injury be a ruse as well?

What do you mean "talk is"? What "talk"? Talk amongst fools who watch golf on TV and are a thousand miles from the tournament and know nothing about the game?

Talk amongst people on golf forums who have nothing better to do with their time than to speculate about things they know nothing about?  There's a big difference between swinging a golf club and walking to a car. Wake up to yourself.

For me - If Tiger never wins again it will be too soon.

I will admit my animosity is not really directed at Tiger, before the Turkey day fiasco I respected him greatly, after Turkey day, ehhh, not so much. Though my real animosity is directed towards the media, who will fawn over his lordship at any and every opportunity. They and many fans act as if the game of golf would dry up and blow away without Eldrick. I get so sick of the sycophants and their daily Tiger watch and the blatant arse kissing anytime Tiger blows a booger.

Makes me sick!

Much like the hype that follows Michelle Wie who has done nothing to deserve the hyperbole that is showered upon her. At least Tiger deserves the attention and platitudes, he has accomplished much! Wie has accomplished NOTHING!

I am enjoying the game so much more these days, watching the young guns and so many others having the chance to compete and win tournaments. The true legacy of Tiger is all the great young talent that is now out on tour, fighting and winning tournaments!

I can't attest to the validity of this as it is just what I read on two other golf forums and I did not see any of the round or whatever transpired thereafter.

You seem to be a very likeable guy.  I'm so glad I decided to give this forum a try. You have a nice day now.

What's the point about conspiring about things like this? Does it matter why Tiger withdrew? He was in pain when playing golf, there is all the proof you need.

There really is no point in speculating. Just enjoy the tournament and wait to see what news breaks. Rumors and innuendo is destructive to the reputation of the gossiper and gossipee and really serves no purpose.

He may be more injured then is known, He might want to try to heal up before the U.S. Open, heck he may have just quit because he was stinking up the place. Point is, We will never know!

All of it is between Eldrick, his doctor, his God and his swing coach.

I saw the video too of him prancing up the steps to the parking lot as well , 2 steps at a time..  Really?  If you have a hurt leg as HE claimed you don't go up a flight of steps 2 steps at a time.. I think he just pulled a Jay Cutler.. He was not scoring well so I believe he just cut his losses instead of hurting his "stats" more by completing that round..

And you have a nice day too, making up nonsense about people and inventing conspiracy theories.

Why are you pretending that you're a pleasant chap making polite converstaion, when in fact, you've just posted a stupid and vicious rumour, designed to smear the name of someone you know nothing about?  Do you expect not to be treated with contempt?

Taking the steps two at a time was posted by Michael Bamberger of Sports Illustrated:

"It is very hard to separate fact from fiction with Tiger Woods. Explaining his withdrawal, Woods said, "The knee acted up and then the Achilles followed after that, and then the calf started cramping up. Everything started getting tight, so it's just a whole chain reaction." But when he climbed a small set of steps en route to his waiting white Mercedes sedan, he took them by two. "

Not getting into the whys or wherefores of Tiger's withdrawal, but if my knee was hurting, I had chunked a couple wedges, shot a 42 and plain embarrassed myself, I probably would have considered withdrawing, too.  What purpose would have been served to post an 80 (or worse).

Tiger obviously thought that he was fit enough to play and do himself justice.

Why on earth would he fake injury?

That's interesting. Thanks for the find, H.

I will point out that going up stairs is not the same motion as a golf swing, but they're still USING the legs, ankles, knees, calf muscles, etc. so that's odd...

I've once had a acl rupture and had no problem walking/going up stairs. There are some moves you can't do, but just to walk is no problem. To twist and turn was the problem.

So you can't judge from normal walking to doing sport, that's a huge difference

I can tell you from first hand experience that a strained achilies is something that can flare up randomly and make walking extremely painful...I can't imagine trying to play with it.

I wore a boot for a few months on mine and it would feel fine for a few days then all of the sudden i'd turn a corner walking through the house or office and i'd feel a pull and it would be back to the boot for a week or two.  This went on for another few months.

What's wrong with withdrawing from a tournament that you aren't able to be competitive in?

Physical injury or mental injury - what difference does it make? Who cares? He was playing like crap, either due to injury or other , and he opted to withdraw rather than post a terrible score and/or further aggravate the injury/other.

It's a smart move meant to bolster your chances of being competitive in future events. Why risk doing more  physical or mental damage en route to posting an 80?

You do realise there are 149 other dudes in the tournament? Its not Like Tiger cancelled the whole tournament, he just withdrew.

The End.

I call it "sucking it up cupcake".. or "man up" instead of using a lame excuse to run away..  Wasn't his going back to Buddha suppose to mean "stop with the deceptions".. I haven't seen any change in that guy since Turkey Day, just more spin.. What is worse is the number of people that buy all the BS (media included)..

edit: I would have more respect for him if he was just honest saying, "I sucked today, and in no mood to post a bad score, so I withdrew"..

Those of you who are posting all of these conspiracy fantasies.... when was the last time you tore up a knee?  You guys haven't got a clue what you are talking about.  It's all about hate, nothing else.  You don't like the guy, therefore you invent reasons to post crap about him.  He's had plenty of problems, some excusable, some not, but guys like you who will invent anything to run him down are the real jerks.
