In the middle of reading this, flipping around, in the back there is a usage section and there are word pairs that get confused:

  • naval, navel - What? Come on...
  • miner, minor - You gotta be kidding me.
  • ordinance, ordnance - I kind of get this.
  • straight, strait - That's it, I am outta here.

Am I overreacting?

Those aren’t usage issues, they’re more spelling errors.

When I think common usage errors, I think there/their/they’re, to/too, and you’re/your...

Like you, I would’ve hoped that a book on syntax would have recognized that.

It’s unbelievable how often I get notes from school  teachers that have those errors.

‘Please be sure to sign the waiver if your going on the field trip.’

Good lord, I almost added a golf post to my status report. Good thing my buddy stopped me from posting that along with this...

You quoted before I edited. What’s funny is I changed it to 0.4 from1.4 in the first place 🤪

And after I edited the first time

I added this here, because it's also a really dumb thing. Last time I try to write a report and blog at the same time, and thank goodness for "zoom" screen share. 🙈

Recently saw an ad for a local supermarket's "Big Seafood Sale". They had an incredible special on MAIN lobster tails! I never knew that there was one main lobster in the sea that provided all the lobster tails!

Brie Larson was good, too.   She’s got a lot of charm.   Since she may be one of the big guns in the Marvel Universe going forward, it’ll be nice to see how they flush out her character

Pretty sure he means "flesh out." 🙂

I don't have a bitching wedge. I wonder if I should look into getting one to fill out my set. :-P

Local online paper wrote a good story about a state wrestling champ being a good golfer.

Polar opposites: Three-time state wrestling champ is also top golfer

This was my response to the writer of the article:

"An 18-hour round can take up to five hours to play -- providing you're lucky" (note actual quote)

Good article. It's nice to highlight something positive in the area.

That being said, the reality is that a 5 hour round is sad. With the new rule changes in place a foursome should be able to compete in much less time that that.

Good grief! It's getting into the bizarro world. In Monday's paper, at the very top of the front page are two sports blurbs to clue you as to what in the sports section. One of the blurbs read, "Greg Woodland wins US Open". I pull out the sports section to read the article and see this. There's a picture of Woodland giving the fist pump after sinking the birdie putt at 18, with a caption below correctly identifying him as Gary Woodland. Then, the headline of the article reads, "Overland holds off Koepka for first major title." Overland?! Where the Hell did that come from?

I was so pissed that I called the paper to complain. I told them that if they needed a proofreader I was available. The person I talked to could not have cared less about the paper's business, and no job offer was forthcoming!

    • Okay, so last night I went to my local place that does PXG fittings. I had every intention of testing out the PXG Allan Putter... which I did. But then, I ended up making either the greatest purchase ever or the worst. Time will tell. I ended up getting fit for and buying a PXG secret weapon... Yeah, I impulse bought a mini-driver.  🤷‍♂️ Clearly PXG saw me coming. Because it's a really good looking club and ... I like shiny things. They've done a great job on the look of this mini driver. I mean it looks great. When sitting down by the ball it looks like a 3-wood. It's actually kind of hard to tell from the top which is bigger the 0311XF or the Secret Weapon. But then you pick it up and realize there's more face than a 3 wood. I think the best way to describe it would be it's the look and color scheme of the Black Ops 3-wood, but the footprint of the 0311XF with a slightly taller face. Which in my opinion looks awesome.  My swing right now is a bit of a work in progress. But I was able to hit the club off the deck and off a tee, with about a 10 yardish advantage hitting off the tee. I also found I had the best results teeing it pretty low. I know, I was hitting it off a mat, so I had a perfect lie every time, but I was very surprised how well it performed off the deck. Currently I don't try to hit my 3-wood unless I get a perfect or near perfect lie anyway, so I think this club will be just fine as a 3-wood replacement.  One thing that was kind of cool, is the best shaft for me turned out to be the Hzrdus Black, 6.0 60. It was a pretty clear winner; Even in terms of feel. That shaft is one of the no upcharge shafts. I will say the Ventus Blue 6 Velocore performed very well. The Ventus Blue 6 Velocore is $300 upgrade. The Ventus also looked great. It's a great color, but the Hzrdus actually gave me better numbers so kudos to the folks at Project X.  Lastly, I broke all my personal rules when it comes to buying golf clubs.  1 - Never buy a club after only hitting for one session. Come back and see if you can repeat the results before buying .... I didn't do that. I just bought it.  2 - It's always a good idea to wait until the newest models come out and then buy the previous or even 2 years back models deeply discounted. ... I didn't do that.  3 - Never impulse buy a club. Always be certain the club fills a certain need in your bag. ... I didn't do that. I was perfectly happy with my 3-wood, until....  4 - Always bring the club you want to replace with you so that you can test it side by side on the same day against the new club. .... I didn't do that either.  5 - Never buy new clubs while you are in the middle of a swing change. ... Looks like I'm 0 for 5.  So, I'm probably an idiot for impulse buying a mini-driver. But man, it's so cool. And I can't wait to get it.
    • Feels are personal. Some people will feel like it's a hit, some will feel like it's a swing. Some will feel like it's one and then have other swings, even in the same round, that feel like the other. "Swing" and "hit" are feel words.
    • I have reviewed the entire Swing Thoughts forum and this question has been answered many times in many ways. I am posting to seek help in clearing my own thoughts. Hogan says for the average golfer to "keep any conscious hand action out of his swing". 6 pages later he also says "Hit the ball as hard as you can with both hands".  This appears to be a contradiction. My drives are respectable (I can find them) when I focus on swinging with loose wrists. If I try to "hit" the ball it all turns to doo doo. Strangely, I can "hit" a 7 iron - and it is more satisfying than just swinging at it! I have been told that my swing is fast. Advice please
