I have a tee time tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM and tried to talk my buddy into playing it far forward and he just laughed at me and kept thinking I was joking. I can see that this is something I will have to do in the evening by myself.

What I find interesting is everyone thinks they will play better if they play it aggressively. I have to imagine that laying up to preffered distances will help me score well compared to 50 yard pitches all day.

My home course just reopened last week with new greens.  I've played it 5 times so far.  I want to get a few more rounds in before I post my "average score".  Will be in before the deadline no problem.

And were not talking about playing pumpkin tees correct? Are we playing most forward mens or should I play womens tees?

Try to finish. A 14-hole score is just guessing. Play a little faster? :) From shorter tees you should be able to get the round in.

Play women's tees if you'd like. I listed gold on mine because they're virtually the same as the red tees at Whispering Woods (and they're rated for men, so I don't have to do the math which may not be entirely accurate.)

(EDIT: I'm not being an ass by highlighting it. I just want to be sure that I copied Erik's post so that he can correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes. If the shortest rated tees for men are about the same as the truly shortest tees which are only rated for women, feel free to do as I've done and only do the "gold" or whatever color they are.

Whispering Woods has Black, Blue, White, and Gold before you get to Red, so I'm taking a big chunk of yardage off by playing the golds AND they're officially rated for men, so I chose those.

Good. Post your predictions when you get the chance. Get some buddies to sign up and you can all do it together. Even if they never post again I'd like to have them post in this thread and the results thread. :)

If i don't play the furthest forward tees( the golds) then it really wouldn't be much of a difference in the course as some of the blue tees and white tees move back and forth between the middle three tee boxes.  4896 is REALLY short though so I'm kind of wondering if I could even play if it I don't get out as the first person of the day.

I'll state my question first:  Can I play 2 - 9's instead of 2 - 18's?

I'm a member of a 9 hole club, and I am already in 2 ongoing tournaments in addition to regular rounds. I am playing a lot for someone with a 1 year-old daughter, and I need to keep playing "real" rounds in addition to the tournaments for handicap purposes. I won't be able to play 2 - 18 hole rounds that your experiment calls for in a 2 week period, but I'd like to get in on it.

If you only want 2 - 18 hole rounds, it's no big deal.  I won't hold a grudge.

If you absolutely can't play 18 holes in each of the two styles, choose one of the styles and play 18 that way OR double your scores if you play 9 holes in each of the styles. You'll double the course rating too but keep the slope the same.

I was thinking there is no way I can do this. Asking my weekend groups to drop $50+ to paly the forward tee's just wasn't going to happen. Then it dawned on me.... what a great way to get in a few rounds with my father. Hopefully our schedules workout where I can get this done and play a couple of rounds with my father.

Honestly I'm concerned that moving up and playing aggressive could actually lead to a higher score than usual. It brings hazards into play and it makes approach shots a challenge because I struggle with the 60* wedge. It will force me to play a style of golf I am not accustomed to. That said when I injured my back last month I did move up when I went out, actually I moved up and hit longer clubs in an effort to not reinjure myself. It was arguable the worst I played all year. Haven't played since so I'm not sure how much the injury affected me.

Who do you think will see more improvement. Some lowcappers being able to drive greens, or hackers having less fat or thin shots to get it into the hole?

Im pretty interested to see how this plays out. I sure hope it helps out as erik hoped. I havent broke 80 but have shot 81 a few times. I hope it helps put me there.
