Winter Depression Thread

It's funny, I'll be heading home to the City for Easter Weekend and I thought that this would be a good thread to check out to see how the opening of the courses has progressed so as to decide as to whether I should bring my clubs home or not.

If I'm reading this correctly, it seems from what you guys and @dkolo are saying is that they'll be open but not in good condition.

If it helps, one local course had hoped to open by the 28th, but that was before we got slammed by rain last night. I didn't call them today, but it's going to rain / snow (uncle, already) tomorrow and be low 40s Sunday. There's still some snow in places where there's shade. I could see them being open Sunday, but I wouldn't bet on it. I think the ground is too wet.

That said, I think they'll be opening at some point this week. Grass, though, is yellow and smushed down from winter. If it's really sunny this week, I could see that turning around fast. Ask again later this week? haha.

When you've been suffering from withdrawals, even the range seems like a decent alternative!

No kidding...What I'd give to hit off of grass.....

Following up, I just got an email from Crab Meadow on Long Island, and they're opening on Tuesday for walking, Wednesday for carts. I hope that helps answer @RFKFREAK

It kind of does but as you suggested, I'll check back next week and see what you guys in LI and NYC have to report. :)

I just realized it's snowing outside.

And I was told it's supposed to be in the 20's and 30's next week.

Temps in the 20's to 30's degF today and tomorrow in my area, but we're grandkid watching while their parents are out of town. I was hoping to get to my home course and renew my USGA/WSGA men's club membership this weekend so I can keep working on re-establishing my handicap, but looks like the course pro shop isn't open yet so maybe I can convince my wife that the 9 year old wants to go to Golfsmith with me instead. She can maybe take the 1 year old to the pet supply store next door to looks at kittens. Sanity: that state of mind where you make do with what you can regardless of the weather outside.

Yeah, there's a good chance Stadium will be open. The course is built on sand so it drains exceptionally well. They're always the first in the area to open. If not, Evergreen will prolly be open, but the course conditions will be sketchy.

It sucks here this weekend too, high of 38 today and high of 48 tomorrow, supposed to tee off at 9:30 am tomorrow, at a high of 28 at tee time.  Great.  This weather is getting old.

Haha, and I'll be down in the City that weekend.

Although, IIRC, we discussed that before.

Stadium is def way better than Evergreen.  It's a fun little course with only two bunkers and very few if any water hazards.  If you get a chance, @PJCdude

No prob, LOL! Stadium is nice in that it is almost always well groomed. However, it's expensive, and ridiculously short and easy. I shot my best round there but it feels like cheating, so I don't really count it.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
