That's.....fascinating. Honestly. I think the ball choice has to be most interesting.

If true, of course.

Ball choice makes sense if what I've read is true that Bridgestone made Nike's golf balls for them.

Yeah, seriously, we hear this every time. John Cook, Notah, etc. all will say he's killing it on the range. We see it ourselves in tournaments: he kills it on the range, then can't find the fairway on the course.

We'll see.

Honestly, the most important thing for Tiger is to stay healthy for a while. This injury and surgery takes a long time to recover from. Graham DeLaet had it, and I think he's said it took him 2 years to get back to 100%. The biggest obstacle for Tiger will be to stay healthy long enough to get to that point.

Everyone situation is different depending on the nature of the herniation and soft tissue healing, but i had a microdistomy two years ago and was was swinging a club normally again in 4 months. I had it done in ocotober so i barley missed any playing time. Granted, i don't torque my midsection the way tiger does in his swing, but two years for an outpatient procedure seems a little off to me.

In addition to not torqueing your body like Tiger, you probably don't even come close to the amount of swings he does. Plus, hasn't Tiger now had 3 of these surgeries? His recovery is going to be very different than yours.

I always love it when people compare their injuries to someone else. Makes no sense to me, particularly for an injury like this…

If Tiger comes back and plays excellent with new equipment the amount of "See Nike equipment is garbage" comments will be insane.

And dumb, considering he managed to play pretty well with Nike gear, too… as has Rory.

(I am only extending on what you said, not disagreeing at all! :-D)

Honestly, nobody here has any idea how long his recovery will take. I'm talking out of my ass, too. But the point I was trying to make is that the key for Tiger is to stay healthy for a long time, so he can both have a full recovery from his back surgery and shake off the rust he doubtlessly has. The worst thing would be for him to get hurt in February again and have to sit out a while again.

So, it's official...  http://www.pgatour.com/news/2016/10/07/tiger-woods-return-Safeway-Open.html

He will be playing the Safeway Open next week.  I am curious as to the state of his game.

I'd bet everyone with even the most minor passing interest in golf is curious as well, including me.  Much like the Ryder Cup last week, Tiger's reach goes way beyond golf fans, or even sports fans.  My only prediction is that Thursday and Friday will have some of the highest TV ratings for any October PGA tournament since the Fedex Cup was started, with even bigger ratings on the weekend if Tiger makes the cup.

If he's anything like his former self, he might even win next week.

I'll be impressed if he makes the cut and is physically able to play all 4 rounds.

Knowing Tiger and his ego, I fully expect him to make the cut and contend.

Hopefully his own expectations bar is set appropriately low so he doesn't overdo anything first time out and keeps the physical tension low.

    • In response to the first question, yes - I have reduced my average score in 9-hole league rounds by about 3 strokes.  As the attached plot chart shows, my high scores decreased and my low scores also deceased.  So I am scoring in an overall lower range. For the second question, I expect to make some improvement next year based on the results I am seeing in my recent practice rounds.  However, I have noticed that "plateaus" in scoring (and many stats) can persist for long time periods and can be permanent.  With advancing age and decreasing swing speed I may be mostly just working to maintain my current skill level.  I do expect a more consistent range of scoring as the result of frequent practice and overall playing experience.
