It wasn't "pretty enough" for the casuals.

Nope and in fairness to the casuals, they have been "taught" that quality golf courses are green and lush, which #2 is not.  The cost savings and environmental benefits are outstanding but it's going to take time and money to change the perception of what a quality course looks like.  I've seen courses like #2 in deserts, but not in NC.  If the USGA is going to push for this to be the new standard they need to educate the public.

Well for amateurs the wasteland would be more penal than rough that is really just nicer fairway where I play. If it's cheaper golf I guess I am all for trying it. The brown fairway and sloppy bunkers are just ugly. The pros need deep rough though. They are too good.

The final round of the 2014 U.S. Open scored a 3.3 rating. Uhhhhhh… yeah. In other words, Martin Kaymer is over twice as boring as Tom Kite was over 20 years ago. :)

Not Kaymer. The course was just boring as hell.

In David's bag....

The other way around. If there was actually an interesting and close leaderboard, nobody would give a shit about the course

I thought the course looked fantastic.

Ditto. I loved the "puffs" when they'd hit a shot. Just like over in the UK.

Completely disagree. Not sure what you're smoking, but it's not very good stuff. :)

Just didn't work for me. Very little penalty to missing the fairways, which are wide to begin with. Miss a fairway and still make birdie (or even eagle).....not a lot more challenge than from the fairway itself. The greens are tough. The rest of the course, not so much. It'll work ok for the women though when they shorten it and soften/slow the greens.

I'd like to see Michelle and Lexi paired in the last round. I'm split between those 2, although Michelle being a mostly west-coast gal, I'd pull a wee bit harder for her.

I'd be happy not to watch Lexi or Natalie at all - they have the two ugliest swings on the LPGA tour.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I don't think 1981 should count. I would have watched snails race, the first year of cable tv...

Nah, it was the David Graham factor ;-)

I am sure the greens rolled true but I kept getting turned down for my request to check them out for a review.

Same here, makes me want to plan a trip to Pinehurst sometime in the next couple years.

Oops. Thought he finished at -10. I tuned out at the end. His performance was unreal on Th-Fri. I'm still calling for a drug test. ;-)

It's not drugs we have to check for. What happens when Kaymer is in the same room as John Connor? I for one am glad he came back to play golf. ;-)
All the pubs (4 different ones...don't judge me) I went to over the weekend were showing the world cup exclusively. It was pretty clear that I was the only one wanting to watch the US Open. Even though it was very boring....I'd still take it over soccer any day.  Fake injuries more please...
Some folks I know I'm going to see later in the week are going to ask me -- I know it -- if I watched any "football" this weekend. I wonder how they'll respond if I say yes, two matches: L.A. vs Portland and Spokane vs San Jose. But those were held at times that the U.S. Open wasn't on live, so it isn't like I had to choose.

To be fair to the World Cup...I watched the last 15 minutes of the Ghana/USA game. That was pretty awesome.
ok, now back to hating FUTBOL

Sure, but he could have at least posted some double and triples early Sunday to make it interesting at least. :-P

Worst US open ever?

Runaway winner since Thursday... Terrible looking course.... No challengers... No Tiger.

I'm sick and tired of the Tiger lovers ... a golf buddy of mine actually wouldn't watch because Tiger wasn't in the field.     Seriously.     Get over it, the guy is 38, back back and questionable knees, will never regain his past form (will continue to be a very good player no doubt, he will continue his limited schedule and contend at the few select courses he likes and choses to grace with his presence, but the domination days of yore are over and buried).       As any golf fan, I respect what he's accomplished, but I've absolutely had it with the Tiger lovers ...

Judging from the ratings your "golf buddy" is in the majority.

I recorded it every day with the intention of watching it but each day I just deleted it. Just wasn't interested enough to watch.

Reminds me of the guys that go to Nascar races still wearing their black #3 shirts ...
