I had fully intended on doing one on Saturday.  I bought a new memory card and charged the phones battery, and even hooked it up to the tripod and tested it out a bit Friday night.

Then after thinking about it overnight, I "chickened out" because of a few reasons.

We were playing a popular muni at 9am on a Saturday morning, and I didn't want to get dirty looks from other players or rangers figuring I'd be slowing things up.

We were only a threesome and the idea of trying to do this with a random fourth watching was not appealing.

We were walking and I figured I'd look like a dumbo trekking all over the place carrying a camera on a tripod.

So, I decided against it and will drag myself out somewhere early in the morning by myself to shoot.

Too bad too, cuz I played well and shot a 76 with 3 birdies.  Knocked out my second best differential, but replaced it with my new best one!  You guys would have been impressed!!

Sure...Sure....  Just so happened to be the time you "decided" not to camera.... :-P

That's actually a concern that have of recording a vlog. For those who have done it, do you keep the video recording, or pause stop and start the camera? I'm hoping to get one in a few weeks at TPC MI and Oakland Hills, but want to test it out first.

Not sure how others do it, but I am pretty sure I would have to take multiple videos for even a hope of my battery and memory lasting.

P.S.  Kudos for using a noun as a verb there. :-P

Me neither, but my plan would be to set it up, turn it on, hit shot, turn it off, proceed.  I hit 6 greens the other day, so that would mean 3 setups including putting on those holes and 4 on all of the others.  That's 66 setups, and I would think each video would average to about 1 minute???

When I first inserted the fully charged battery, the camera said it had something like 105 minutes of recording time available, so I feel like it shouldn't be a problem, even for 18 holes.

Yeah. It's basically pasting around ( 36 + (handicap/2) - tap ins ) video files together. Add in some text overlays or transitions and audio. It's pretty easy with iMovie on a Mac. I'm guessing Windows Moviemaker is similar.

I think you forgot to add the putting? :-P

I opened up iMovie the other day for the first time, and it certainly seems like it'll end up being pretty user friendly.

All I know is that it has a "Star Wars" title sequence option, so I gotta figure out how to work that in!!

I hope you guys got sick of watching good golf, because I made a vlog!

I only got the front 9 because my memory card was full. Also, I forgot to bring my tripod, so the camera setup was interesting, to say the least. I apologize in advance for some bad camera work.

Oh, and my narration is really quiet, for some reason. Maybe I need to get a microphone. It's my first time making something of a real video in movie maker.

Nice job.

Hope to make one soon.  Last time I played, there was a group with me.  I will get it done eventually.

I went out alone, but I don't see how being in a group would affect me. You can set up the camera while other people are playing their shots. Only my handicam (with expanded battery) can take an entire round of golf in one continuous shot. But, at 30fps, why bother? [/quote]It's really not that bad, especially if you have a good tripod. My plan was to mount my camera on my tripod and stick it in my bag, so all I'd have to do is position the bag properly and adjust the ball to level out the shot. Would have taken 20 seconds, if that. Heck, even with having to wedge a water bottle, manipulate my club heads, and pad out my towel just right under my camera, it still took less than a minute to set up the shot. Got even easier a few holes in, once I figured out what I could and couldn't do.

Nice job Bill. For myself I'm enjoying this because I typically just see your guys swing's on the range, so it's interesting to see how things look on the course.

I'm considering filming a vlog tonight of me hitting nothing but a six-iron.

Probably the whites. Family doesn't want to eat until 5:30, though, so that could be good or bad. Good because the course will be less crowded. Bad because it might be too late to do much.

Sounds like fun, if not tonight it would definitely be cool to see another time.

I might do the "nine from hell" on my morning course Friday if the weather holds up.

So…

  • I played with just a 6-iron. In the past, I forgot, I've done this with a 5-iron.
  • I forgot for several holes how to putt with a 6-iron. The trick is to point 45° left, lay the blade open, and get a lot of mass behind the leading edge. My putts all come up short on the first several holes. There's too much loft to try to putt with the face, and not enough like with a wedge to just blade them squarely.
  • Firm sand = not a great match for a six-iron.
  • I haven't practiced since the last vlog, which shows. Swing is gross. And the first swing on the video? It took place three minutes after arriving at the course. So… yeah. Some pretty lousy golf played in this video. I can get it squared away again, though. Tomorrow. I'll update My Swing thread… gonna put in a little work tomorrow.
  • Despite all that, I had some fun. Some weird camera angles.

P.S. I love the shirt for just sitting around, or teaching lessons, but hate it when swinging. I like a LOT of room in my armpits, particularly in the left one. That's what the stupid left arm twitching thing is about. Ugh.

Cool idea for a vlog @iacas . Might be fun to do that on the Saturday before the August outing.

I tried to film a vlog today but batteries were too low, they only made it one hole

    • This statement doesn't make much sense to me.  So, I think the push and pull between a 3-wood meant for off the turf versus off the tee is how tall the face is on the 3-wood. I do not get how this mini driver would be good off the turf, or at least get the height needed to stop the ball as a normal 3-wood meant for off the ground. Maybe they care more about hitting the 3-wood off the tee versus off the turf. Nearly every strike would be low on the clubface relative to the CG location.  I would take that statement as more as marketing over what you would actually expect the club to perform.
    • No, not that Minnie Driver. This one: It's a mini driver from Titleist, available for Tour validation/testing starting this week at Kapalua. It's available in righty and lefty and is only in 13° models for now. GT280 is a direct result of Titleist’s collaboration with PGA TOUR players on the development and testing of the TSR 2W prototype, which debuted on TOUR at last year’s PLAYERS Championship. With many players seeking an additional option at the top end of their setup, Titleist tour reps and R&D engineers worked with players such as Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13-degree head that worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck. Now on Tour: New Titleist GT280 The arrival of the 2025 PGA TOUR season this week in Maui brings with it an addition to Titleist’s breakthrough line of GT metalwoods: the new Titleist GT280.
