It is?

Yeah, running plays and short quick passes can be designed to beat the blitz. Can be easier for the RB to hit the secondary if they send a bunch of people into the backfield after the QB.

Of course, if executed poorly, it can also result in a 6 yard loss.

Unless it is a zone blitz that sits a player in the are of the hot read, then you are SCREWED! :-D

In some cases if you can get through the first wave, absolutely you can break a long play, but the way the Skins had all those guys on the line the Cowboys were out manned and trying to run into that wasn't going to me effective.

Murray ran for 8 yards on the running play they tried in OT.  Most good running backs run small, when you have a pile of big guys up in front it's tough to know where the running back is.  A non zone blitz sends all players up their lanes or in stunts which means if the RB can get through the line they have at least 5 yards before the safeties or CB's can tackle them.

Not saying you can't run against a blitz, just that running into a front you don't have enough guys to block isn't going to consistently be successful. The generalization you're making about "non zone" blitzes simply isn't accurate, it all depends on scheme. Some or all of the defenders can 2 gap, it could be a delay and rush based on which way the OL step, or any combination of countless other things. It is absolutely true that if you break through the first wave you can get a big gain, but again, that's a big if when you're out manned. Looked like Romo was checking out of run plays against that look to me, but obviously can't say for sure.

I hate the Steelers...but gotta admit...as a football fan, it's been fun watching Roethlisberger the past couple of weeks.

The Nick Foles era is over in Philadelphia. Not that Mark Sanchez is a franchise QB, but he will perform better in Chip Kelly's offense than the lead-footed turnover machine that is Nick Foles. Now we have a chance in a weak NFC.

As a quasi-Jet fan from New York, you'll learn to hate Sanchez in a hurry, trust me. Don't let that pretty face fool you!

No Brian Schottenheimers, Tony Sparanos or Marty Morhinwhegs around here. Sanchez will do very well in Chip Kelly's offense, better than Foles anyway. One thing Foles has been good for this year is a couple of turnovers per game. You could book it.

Adrian Peterson News: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11819670/adrian-peterson-minnesota-vikings-plea-guilty-lesser-charge-felony-child-abuse-charge-avoid-jail

Quote:
The Minnesota Vikings star, who has been on the commissioner's exempt list since being indicted in September, will enter a plea to one misdemeanor count of reckless assault, according to the source.
...

Only commissioner Roger Goodell can reinstate Peterson from the exempt list, meaning the two could be required to meet.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy , who is facing a trial for a domestic violence charge, also was placed on the exempt list in September.

Both players agreed as part of a deal that they would be ineligible to play until their cases are adjudicated, but that they would receive full compensation until that time.

Once Goodell reinstates Peterson, presuming the commissioner eventually does so, the Vikings would either have to allow the running back to return to the team or be required to release him.

Will be interesting to see if the NFL suspends him for rest of season or if he's re-activated by the Vikings given time served.

According to the CBA, they'd have to reinstate him immediately, and dock him 6 weeks pay.

That's what I expect.

I will be burning my waiver on AP this week lol.

I agree, but I think this will hurt the NFL in the Ray Rice case so that's why I posted the question.

because we'd then be going into the Cincy game on Thursday night...and they're notorious for blowing it in primetime, while the Browns are the exact opposite.

That's easy when you never play in primetime.

What was that? God I love being right...

As a University of Arizona alum and NY Giants fan who grew up in NY, I hope you're wrong!!! Just kidding. Good luck to you. Sanchez seems like he might fit there. There's this Eli Manning guy I know who's good for a couple of turnovers a game, too.
