I was rooting so hard for it to be Amy Mickelson & Elin Nordegren.

LOL

I bet Phil knew all about how DJ was, and he told Amy stay the F#$#$ away from Dustin. A long time ago.

There we go. After the speculation, we have the truth.

What if I told you I was the unnamed source?

I am kidding and often when there is smoke there is fire, but not always.

Tell him to move to the UK, we don't tend to go OTT on these things (unless its Beckham)

Don't believe me? Here's the BBC's sports page

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/

Not a mention of him. No one's interested in a golfer who was unable to resist temptation (far too many footballers trodden that route already). If you click into the golf section you will find a reference to it, albeit we're more interested in what it means for the Ryder Cup team

I'm curious actually. Would I be correct in saying Woods got slaughtered by self-righteous middle America just for playing around? Why is Johnson treated differently? or is he? My impression is that he's being given a lot more sympathy

Well, I could be way off base here, but it probably has something to do with with a breathing condition being neither illegal nor against PGA Tour rules.

But asthma's  a disease ..........and being a drug addict or an alcoholic is a disease.......... they should all go.  Shouldn't they...... Don't you think..........?

obvious bait

Well you'd think so, wouldn't you?

I'm referring to the apologists who claim that drug dependency or alcoholism or obesity is a "disease".

Not really the time or place.

Start another thread if you actually care to discuss that.

Addiction is a disease. People are free to disagree with that. But disagreeing with that doesn't make it NOT a disease.

Look no further that DJ getting popped for a third time when he knew he would get suspended for 6 months. Rational, sane people would not react that way. Non-addicted people would say okay, I'll quit doing that.

Addicts can't stop. It's a mental illness. One that doesn't solicit much sympathy, but again, lack of sympathy doesn't prove it's not a disease. It just proves that many people, a) don't understand it, or b) don't care to understand it.

This is the first I have heard that it is a "fact"?

take a look here where they discuss the "Disease Theory of Alcoholism" and its roots

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disease_theory_of_alcoholism

I believe that people have choices to make in life... just like I choose not to do cocain and other drugs someone else does.. let me assume that addiction is hard to break for a minute, that is fine.. I still put the blame on him for taking it the first time and putting himself in the position to get addicted can't I?  I don't think understanding the nature of addiction plays a role in one forming an opinion about a coke addict.. and just because he is a professional golfer doesn't make my opinion change.. I think of him just like I do of a crack head on the corner.. They are both enablers of drug dealers who eventually try and sell to all of our children.. the only difference is DJ is more of an enabler because he has millions to blow.. no pun intended.

I don't think Wikipedia is an accepted medical website. Here's one that talks about alcoholism in a rational and factual way: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=52888

There are certain people and this is very common, that has a propensity towards compulsion and addiction. It's part of their personality. I have done cocaine in the past (it's been a very long time now) and it's a powerful drug and a great buzz. I am not compulsive but can easily see how one can get addicted to this drug. Johnson has no choice but to cure himself with outside help. I hope he succeeds and I hope others like you cut him some slack.

Somebody needs to make a separate thread for this...

But isn't the discussion evolving?

Now that the speculation is over, isn't it fair to delve into other related and highly relevant territory?

I wouldn't think so.

Care to say why?

You have a situation where a player has been suspended for a violation that some people think he isn't responsible for.

I want them to explain themselves.

Well aware but age isnt on his side and a lot of people dont like him. DJ is like Taylormade's Rickie Fowler. Kids love him.

Not to go OT but Sergio is 34, lol.  Age isn't on his side?  Dustin is what, a whopping 3 years younger?

Sure. The topic is, D.J.'s drug suspension, not his other outside activities. you could always start a new thread if you wish to... ;-)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
