The TST Member Tournament Play Thread

It was the Kittyhawk Men's Association club championship this weekend. I played pretty crappy, but most of the rest of C-flight played even worse. I tied for 1st with scores of 99 on Kittyhawk's Hawk course and 98 on the Eagle course. The fellow I tied with really didn't want to get his clubs and play the playoff hole, so I agreed to let the tie stand.

How I stayed in double digits on Saturday, I'll never know. Deep-sixed at least six balls. I was tempted to give myself credit for my resiliency. Then Sunday's round happened. I miss-hit every ball on holes 7, 8 and 9. Came completely unglued with an 8, 5 and 7 on a par 4-3-4 stretch. Thankfully, I got sorted out at the turn and finished ok.

None-the-less, I now have $90 credit for Kittyhawk's pro shop.

Thanks. Hopefully that $90 will come in useful although pro shops have never been known for the best prices on anything.

Either way, it's a lot better than last year's fiasco. I didn't score a round for three weeks after that. Feeling positive about Norwalk.

Had our Senior Club Championship this weekend, 78-79-157, finished 8th gross.  Woeful display of putting.  Hit the ball very well, I missed a dozen putts inside of 4 feet over the weekend.

Hey, $90 makes almost any purchase into a good deal, even with the pro shop mark-up.

Still good playing for an 8-handicap, in spite of the putting.

Yeah, one over par handicap for two days isn't bad (7 handicap), just so many strokes left out there with hitting one of two very poor shots.  36 putts the first day (2 doubles) and 35 putts the second day (one double).

I played in my club championship a few weeks back... Shot 98-92=190... I just stink at golf... I'm hoping I can shoot mid-80s for qualifying for the City Championship on August 27, 28 and Sept 3,4 and 5 (well probably just the 4th for the flight I'll be in)

Won our first round of our summer final 32 fourball match.

Shot 37-40-77, my partner shot 42-36-78, won 4&2.  On to round of 16.  Putted a little better today.

My league playoffs start next week.  Top 16 (out of 26) make the playoffs.  We play match play.  I finished in 2nd place for the regular season (second year in a row) so I play the 15th seed.  Giving 8 strokes so only one hole will be even.  Going to be tough giving that many strokes, especially on the par 3 's.

When I give a lot of strokes, I try to stay more even-keel than normal, if that's possible.  You'll lose a  couple of holes because of the strokes, but you're likely to win more if you can play steady, he's going to make mistakes.  Good luck!

Thanks!  That's pretty much how I play.  I'm a very consistent golfer and that is the main reason I finished 2nd in the regular season as i tend to make less mistakes than my opponent.  If i shoot near my handicap and he wins, then good on him!

Played in what I intended as a warm up tournament to our club championship in 2 weeks yesterday. It was a 2 man best ball, modified stableford event.

Long story short, I ended up shooting even par (71) for the best round of my life. My net score was a 62. I got 37 points from that round. Unfortunately, my partner had a terrible day, and our team total ended up being 37 points. That was enough to get us 3rd in our flight (41 points won it). You needed to get a lot of net birdies to win. I made a net birdie or better on every hole but one I got a stroke on. My partner had a couple of more strokes than I did, but he couldn't use them well enough.

Still, though, a lot of fun. My handicap now is in the range where I might declare for the first flight at our club championship. That pays gross and net, but I'd probably only have a shot at the net title realistically. I'd need two rounds in the 70s from the back tees to have a shot at the gross title. That's a big ask for me. Every other flight only pays net. Not a bad problem to have, though!

Great playing, its amazing when you shoot a career round, and its in a competition!

I'm also in a spot where I'm planning to play championship flight in our upcoming Club Championship.  I know most of the players, and there's not one I can't beat, on the right day.  That said, to win 4 matches against that level of competition is a pretty long shot for me.  But I'll never know unless I give it a shot.  Best of luck in yours

Played my club championship the past 3 days.  I stunk up the place with bad ball striking, but somehow made the cut.  91-89-94 wasn't bringing home any hardware, even in C flight.  But at least I made it to C flight!

Our Member/Member was Saturday and Sunday with 120 players in four flights.
My partner and I were seeded #2 in the 2nd flight with 15 other teams.

Saturday was warm and humid and SLOW, but we managed to stay in the hunt with a 75 on best ball.
Sunday was Alternate Shot, with light rain for an hour into the event.

We posted a 73 and won on a scorecard playoff, with a bird on the first hole in our flight.
We also cashed very well in the Calcutta winning fourth place, just two shots out of first place.

Overall, I was happy our 148 and we finished 6th overall Gross in the field.
137 was the low two day total score by low handicap players.

Thanks. I hadn't broken 80 in a tournament yet, so this tournament was supposed to be my tournament to do that as preparation for the club championship.

I've also decided to move up to the gross flight for the club championship. Less chance that I'll win money for sure, but I want to give it a shot.

The bane of golfers everywhere is rearing its ugly head today, the first round of my league playoffs,...RAIN!!!  I hate rain!!

My club championship is this weekend. Joined a new club this year and not expecting to win Just trying to have fun and play my game  As long as I think Fairways, greens and tap ins I think I will be alright

Last 3 years I play sporadically and only played one tournament and that made me too nervous. This year we had weekly leagues and other tournaments at the club so it's help me prepare

Good luck at your own preparation !
