  1. 1. In the past 10 years has technology helped you hit the ball farther?

    • Yes (10+ yards)
      17
    • Yes, but nothing crazy (5-10 yards)
      17
    • No, I hit it about the same

    • No, I hit it shorter
      6

I voted about the same, honestly I don't think there has been near as many advancements in technology in so far as distance with clubs in the past 10 years, it's been pretty much at the limits for some time.

I voted no because it's not really easy to measure unless someone has the same exact swing. I have gained distance but in the last year to year and a half I have seen my driver swing speed go from 90-95 to 107 last time I measured it. I assume my iron swing speed has progressed along with that. This is due to lessons and diving into everything golf and learning as much as possible. So do I have newer technology? Sure. Do I hit it further? Sure. Is there a correlation? I have no idea.

Yes. New technology in woods (metals) and balls makes it hard not too. I play old forged blades so I don't notice a significant change in my irons. Other than I believe I'm just better (let me have the fantasy), but its noticeable off the tee.

I voted about the same. If anything technology may have helped me hit balls straighter, but that's about it.

Eventually getting older will have me hitting balls shorter.

I assume we are talking about legal balls, and clubs.

I'm probably about as long as I was, but I'm also 10 years older, and beginning to lose some distance as a result. So I'll say that technology has helped me maintain......Call it a slight net gain, but nothing crazy.

I've certainly gained distance since I started ... uhhh ... internetting. 10 yards? Definitely with my driver, probably right around there with my irons. I'm not sure exactly how many I can pin on technology, but I'd say most.

If there were a 0-5 yard option I'd choose that one. Max yardage not so much, but the bad shots are going closer towards the target, more playable. I used to swing very hard, many moons ago, now I take what feels like an easier swing. Since I've smartened up on choosing instructors, I have reached par 5s I didn't before, more due to distance and accuracy than distance alone plus my neck doesn't spasm like it used to and my back isn't as sore even though I'm older, cross fingers. Changing AoA for the driver helped - I used to tee it pretty low. Video and indirect benefits from radar and launch monitors as well. Advances in club technology, not so much. My equipment is pretty ratty and old, I've never been one to keep up with changes in club tech.

I voted yes, but that is due to high speed video and Evolvr lessons.  I haven't notice gains due to equipment, only using that equipment to its fullest potential.

I'm 10-15 yards shorter now. I attribute that to my swing not being as good with most of my clubs.

I'm shorter with the driver and 3 wood.

I hit the 3 and 4 hybrid as long and straighter than 5 wood and 4 iron.

I'm shorter with 5iron through PW and probably less accurate.

I'm just and long and more accurate with Gap through lob wedge.

Let's thank Ely for the Big Bertha didn't he start it all? Driver heads now are 460cc with trampoline face that push the limits of COR along with titanium materials. Yep technology has helped me achieve at least 10 yards more.

Jury is still out as lessons take hold.

Ten years ago, I just wailed away at the ball. If my tempo worked that day, once in a while I would hit a driver 280.

I think properly fitted technology, for me that translates to light heads with tech and forgiveness, and lightweight shafts, offer more consistency. A good drive is now 260.

Answer: No as to farther at this time.  Yes if one asked the question of forgiveness.

I voted yes.  I know my swing is better but I also know that I had more club head speed when I was 21 then I do at 32.  I actually played a 9 hole course I used to play a lot when I was in high school and Im hitting pw on both par 3's that I used to hit a 8 iron on (Im sure the 8 was lofted more like my current 9) and Im also hitting my driver on holes 4&5 at least 10 yards further. Last time I was there I hit a driver on 4 that I had an 8i left on the approach. When I used to play it I was lucky to have a 6.  I think the biggest difference between cubs is how forgiving they are especially drivers. My old Adams Redline went no where when you hit it out on the toe.  The Gernade goes much closer to the same distance off the toe as a centered hit.

I think metal has been the biggest improvement. It's hard to hit it very far when your hitting plastic clubs.

Would be interesting to see how the vote breaks down by age. I would guess that almost anybody currently under 50 would have seen an increase if they are playing and practicing much golf and staying in good shape. It would start to get a little ify at 55 or 60. Over 60 if you've picked up yardage in the last 10 years hat's off to you.

Or, like me, as an older guy, you haven't lost yardage....I call that a net gain.
