I don't root against anybody, but if there's anybody who I'm not rooting for and don't mind watching implode ... it's Bubba.

Go Rickie!  (And random Japanese dude ;))

EDIT:  Wow, with his body language, I sorta thought he packed it in.  guess not.

Looks like Bubba heard you ;-)

That was one of the most clutch shots I've ever seen...in golf.

Most exciting end to a golf tournament that I've seen in a very LONG time.  6 guys w/in 1 stroke of each other on the final 2 holes.

Was hoping that Fowler would finally win one but he couldn't seem to avoid dropping the ball into the water.  Was glad to see Kaymer's ball take swim; don't really like or dislike him but he's not American.  Same reason I wasn't rooting for McDowell, Iwata (Japan) or Clark (So. Africa).

It should be noted the commentators (who I think were British) made a stupid comment suggesting that the Chinese would be excited to see win Iwata win.  NOT!!!  Iwata is Japanese and there are still a lot of Chinese who remember the war crimes and atrocities that the Japanese committed in China during WWII.  The Chinese have a very LONG memory and there is absolutely NO love lost between the Chinese and Japanese.  They tolerate and do business w/each other because they have to but I don't see any reason why the Chinese would root for a Japanese golfer any more than they would for an American, Irishman, German or South African.  In fact, they'd probably favor an American, European and South African over a Japanese.

When Fowler faltered, I was hoping that Bubba would win but it looked like he was done when he double bogied the 3 par 17th but then he came back w/the eagle on the 18th by holing the ball from the trap on 18th to tie for the lead w/Clark.  That was pretty exciting, as was that fact that Kaymer, Iwata and McDowell each had a chance to tie for the lead on the 18th, but that none of them did.  The capper was Bubba's birdie to take the title over Clark; he was he was just trying to lay up but it rolled in.   So, despite messing up, he was still able to win.

Not a Bubba fan or hater, but he did what it took to win and it was exciting to watch.

From a South African I was so glad when Bubba hit that bunker during the playoff.

I was about 23:00 over here and I was a bit sleepy, so I thought there is no way he would be able to play that shot with his feet high up. Turns out he's a lefty. :-P

Excellent ending to the tournament though!

Cheers

I really enjoyed this one.  Hard to watch the Sanderson at all after this finish.  Still was hoping for 4 or 5 to make the playoff....

Bubba made a statement(s) recently about trying to be more positive during rounds.  I think I'm seeing a genuine effort during the last couple tourneys I've viewed.  Seems the pros are just people after all.

I was pulling for G-Mac the whole way but I gotta hand it to Bubba, that was one helluva bunker shot. Especially after he backed off because of the cameras, I thought, "no way he makes a good shot now." Great shot. His putting seems to be improving too.

I was actually behind Tim Clark in the playoff. I feel his style of play is an amazing example for those who can't hit the long ball. Anybody have an idea about how many fairways he missed in total? Can't be much!

What the hell happened on Sunday?? It was like no one wanted it. I'll remember those last few holes for a while though...so fun to watch. My wife and one year old son woke up at 2 in the morning to watch with me.

Watching G-Mac was heartbreaking, just couldn't get it going. All he needed to do was shoot par to make the playoff. :(

Congrats to Bubba, CLUTCH

I don't have anything against Bubba! That bunker shot and final putt had my jaw dropped! It was something to witness. I just backed Tim Clark because he is South African like me! And I like his playing style. Hat off to Bubba though! Coming back with that eagle after his horrible 17th! Just amazing to see.

I don't like Bubba's attitude/demeanor a lot of the time. That "I'm not going to hit driver at the longest drive contest just to prove a point." was lame.

However, I really enjoy watching him play, and he makes me laugh sometimes. I like that commercial where he's testing out that new driver with the turbulators (sp?), and at the very end he hits a 340 yard drive...he's smirking at the camera and says, "you're welcome." I love that.

That's true. Even though his attitude has room for improvement, he is a very entertaining player, but so are most big hitter, right? And he was actually lucky that Tim's birdie putt on the 16th lipped out! Bubba also had a big advantage in the playoff, being able to reach the green in 2. I think he out drove Tim by about 80-90 yards? That is almost unfair! ;)

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
