Chamblee seems to blame Como for his short game woes and Notah Begay says it's not that cut and dry.

Wasn't his short game starting to go to shit with Foley anyway?

Golf is in good hands post-Tiger. I'd guess he will remain affiliated for many years similar to Jack and Arnie. No need for panic.

No one is panicking. Everyone knows that the game has moved on and that Tiger in never going to regain his former greatness and has no chance of equalling Jack's record. But in a discussion about Tiger, you tend to have people talking about Tiger. No-one is saying golf is doomed, it's just a question of how long he can put up with scoring like an also ran. He will bow out gracefully if he does not contend in majors this year.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yes, but it is Tiger Woods.

He's not an average tour pro. That's the point.

Well he is now, but yea I get your point. Most people have a hard time accepting when they can't do things the way they used to be able to.

Tiger's his own worst critic; it's probably eating him up inside.

Agreed.

See my post on his thread. Tiger between the ears is his own downfall.

Weather was a big factor, gotta luv Phil. He played the entire round without an umbrella. (couldn't tell if one was on the bag?)

Guy's were all over the course, everywhere.

I wouldn't call it "terrible golf played today" considering the conditions.

Guy's had to be looking forward to getting off the course!

Many probably may be glad to take the weekend off and enjoy the weekend elsewhere.

Mehh Martin Laird didnt seem to care. Dude was sniping out there. Even Rickie and Kuchar who were what like -3 and -1 under were hitting some gross shots. Guess the weather must have been a big factor, or just rust still coming off some of them.

Yes, at least technique wise. He was doing that shut face, clubhead working up and out move with Foley.

Now I have something in common with Tiger. We both shot 82 at TPC Scottsdale.

Alright, just saw Tiger's press conference. He opens by saying, "I'm just doing this so I don't get fined...!" That's funny and classy. Good for him. Damn.....I could start to like him if he keeps that up!

I haven't read this entire thread, but I wonder if anyone else noticed that  ESPN said Tiger Woods led the field in driving distance. Is that true or a mistake? This is a crazy game if so...

I give Tiger credit, in the past he'd have withdrawn rather than shoot a round in the 80's so at least he's maturing and accepting of the fact that he's no longer the dominant golfer on Tour.

It almost seems like he has chipping/pitching yips, he looks really uncomfortable around the green and seems to have zero touch or control of the club face.  I know he took time off to heal and rest but I'm shocked that a pro golfer could get that rusty in such a short period of time.

It will be interesting to see how he plays in his next tournament and if his poor performance today motivates him to improve or mark the start of a tailspin.

That's the question I have is his motivation. Is it still there? We all saw a loose, laid back and happy Tiger the other day, and I loved seeing it, but at the same time I kinda miss "The Determined Tiger"...the Tiger who when he came back from ACL surgery in 2009 meant business and dominated right from the get go.

My point was merely to say that Tiger's influence has affected all of us on some level or another. Nothing about the game's future.

He might still be motivated but realizes he's not playing well and rather than brood he's trying to shrug it off.

He has to be set financially even with what he's paid out to Elin.  He has a hot new girl friend in Lindsey Vonn who's training for the Olympics.  His motivation to keep playing golf was to beat Jacks record but maybe it doesn't mean as much to him as it did or he just realizes it's such a long shot at this point he's lost interest.

Tiger changed golf and Rory, Bubba, Jordan, Reed and the rest can all thank Tiger for the large checks they play for today.

He influences the future in the sense that even as a 2nd rate golfer right now, the media still looks to him as the star.  Who else would have gotten as much coverage as Tiger shooting an 82.  Look at the news on Google and every headline regarding the Phoenix Open is about Tiger.

I'm calling bullshit on that one. He's withdrawn rarely, and when he has he's been injured. I don't believe he's ever withdrawn simply to avoid shooting a score.
