Must be nice to have that backup plan as an option. lol

It's common knowledge that Jordan is an obsessive golfer, playing almost every day and always for money. The Bear's Club is where Jordan plays the most, and usually with other celebrities and PGA Tour pros, like Keegan Bradley. But when he does play, he's not exactly deliberate over every shot -- he wants to zoom through the course and expects folks to let him play through. And according to this report's sources , that expectation is not always being met:

"Michael likes to play fast and he can't stand it when people won't let him through," said a golf-industry insider who knows Jordan and who has spoken with several Bear's Club's members. "That happens enough out there that he's gotten fed up."

The same source tells Golf.com that Jordan has secured an option on a plot of land in nearby Hobe Sound, with ideas on building his own private course with an extremely limited and exclusive membership, approved specifically by MJ.

This area in South Florida has become concentrated with clubs overflowing with famous people and the top golfers in the world. Both Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have moved into the area in recent years. The Bear's Club and Medalist, where Woods plays and is reportedly trying to sort out the mess that is his swing right now, are some of the most popular among the high rollers.

If he can get enough of the right members it will work.

Super exclusive high end private golf course member don't pay monthly set dues like the poor masses that belong to normal country clubs.

Instead the annual costs are added up at the end of the year and is divided by the number of members and that is what you owe.

Must be nice. Maybe he and Tiger can design a course together

That sounds funny, either he is selective as to who expects to play fast with, or he is finishing up 18 while Keegan Bradley is still giving his ball the evil eye back on the front nine somewhere :-)

This is another reason I don't let slow play bother me. I don't have enough money to build my own course.

Why doesn't he just play first thing in the morning?  Or just book a block of tee time and pay for it.  Seems like it would be a lot cheaper and less of a headache. NO?

I remember seeing MJ on Leno after his second retirement from the Bulls, and he stated he played 81 holes in one day... the joke was he had no job so what else was he going to do!

81 holes though, that's just insane.  Sure, most-likely he had a cart, the course to himself, assistants to bring him food and what-not, but still, that's 4.5 rounds in one day!!!

I don't think anyone actually likes to play slower than what their own personal timing, and rhythm might be.  However, there are few of us who don't let slow play cause us any grief when we do encounter a slow down. Me, I am there to play golf, and I never let pace of play bother me. Slow play will always be a part of the golfer's schedule...........every once in a while.

Sure does... IF there's no place to go, NOBODY gets 'let through". I don't care if you OWN the course. You can just wait like the rest of us. OR, if you own the course, close it and play by yourself.

Plus going to the green when his playing partners are still back in the fairway? He thinks too much of himself.

I don't think Jordan really considered what goes into building and running a private course.

http://golfweek.com/news/2015/feb/20/michael-jordan-golf-course-south-florida-jupiter /

Quote:

Figure about $50 million, minimum, to get the place established, then at least $5 million annually to keep it open. That’s presuming no debt financing. It also presumes that he would never see the $50 million initial investment again because there isn’t a private club in the country that actually makes real money beyond operating expenses and debt payment. It’s pure vanity money: spend it and kiss it goodbye.

Think Jordan can rustle up 100 friends and have them ante up $500,000 per? Athletes are just about the cheapest folks on the planet and bristle at having to pay for golf.

If Jordan would want to be more cautious and finance half of the development and mortgage the rest – no bank would approve more than 50 percent to build a golf course anyway – he would be looking at an annual mortgage payment of $1.65 million for 20 years. If his course were to do 5,000 rounds a year – anything more would be too crowded by Jordan’s standards – each round would, in effect, cost $1,130. Good luck finding friends who will make membership numbers like that work.

Seems like a silly way to throw away money just because you don't like "slow" play.

My thoughts exactly!    MJ needs to get his azz out of bed and join the 'dawn patrol' if slow play is getting him down.  Of course, we need to consider he's probably playing at least 36 holes many days, and this won't help with the second 18!!

For this, he should build his own course. Why not?   With a couple of business partners, they could build an amazing course and keep it ultra exclusive........these courses already exist and they were started for the same reasons.

In the Columbus Ohio area I can think of 2 of these courses right off the top of my head......Double Eagle and Pete Dyes Golf Club.

- Mizuno Mp-T4 56degree SW
- Mizuno Mp-T11 60degree SW

$5million per is nothing to Jordan. Absolutely pocket change. Like Chris Rock said, if poor people actually knew how rich rich people are, there would be a massive revolution. $5million is interest on his interest. One thing money can't buy: More time in the day.

You know your rich when you build you own golf course because a 3-hour round at a fancy country club is too slow for you.

I don't begrudge the man.

totally agree w/you, my thought is by reading this there are several Tour Players that have memberships at this club, and I'm sure there are several (nobodies, everyday people who also have memberships there that have a great game too) so basically to a degree what Jordan is saying here is he's more important and I dare anyone hold me up, after all I'm MJ..he does come across as a ass on and off the course imho
