It is fascinating that you embrace every rumor about Tiger and ignore every rumor about Jack and Arnie.

Well to be fair, Tiger (and Rory) are playing against a field is deeper and has access to better PED's than Jack and Arnie ever faced.

Players play, tough players win!

They had them, though, I'm sure. Basebal players of that era used amphetamines to keep going through the long season.

That is an interesting take. I didn't think about the how he could use a slander lawsuit to clear his name for old allegations. If figured his PR people would advise him not to sue because headlines would read something like.

"Billionaire golfer Tiger Woods sues struggling journeyman pro"

^^That's a fair point. Optics either way aren't great here for Tiger I guess. It's unfortunate, I just don't like to see unfounded/untrue rumors get thrown out there without consequences.

A part of me thinks this ^^^^

Nope. Some people just don't go on attack mode with the lawyer. Heck you might not even hear about it. Olsen might get a nicely written document stating to the fact what a big pile of  he just stepped in with all of this.

Olsen backed off Monday, telling ESPN.com's Michael Collins that "it was only my opinion."

"Everything I said on that radio interview was only my opinion and not based on any firsthand knowledge or facts," Olsen told ESPN.com. "I want to make a full retraction to everything I said for the entire radio interview, and I apologize to Tiger, Nike, Phil [Mickelson], [commissioner] Tim Finchem and the PGA Tour."

How can you have the "opinion" that someone has been suspended for a month?

You may as well say you have the "opinion" that someone was arrested for burglary despite not being aware of anything having gone missing.

This idiot deserves  to be sued.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Nike marketing wet dream, hear me out on this commercial:

Black screen with a Nike swoosh

Olson's radio comments playing, audio only, focusing on the Nike "cheater ball" comments

Picture fades in, TIGER WOODS EARLY 2000's BALL WORKING COMPILATION, no background music just "cheater ball" comments plus ballstriking

Olson's radio comments are repeated over and over while the sick compilation is playing, "cheater ball cheater ball"

30 seconds of Tiger checking up wedges and long irons while "cheater ball" is repeated over and over

2005 Masters chip is the last clip of the compilation, the Nike logo drops into the hole and the picture and sound cut out:

Black screen white text: "Give your playing partners something to talk about.  The Nike 20xi-version 2.0"

Sales go up 1,000,000% and the entire world uses Nike balls

I'm no legal expert,so I may very well be wrong, but I think he's angling for a defense in case he gets sued. Perhaps he'll be arguing that he has a right to his opinions no matter how unfounded they may be. Not sure how good a defense that will be, but....

I would like to see him dragged to court and sweat it out, but I hope Tiger doesn't sue him. Just let bottom feeders be bottom feeders (in PGA tour sense),. don't dignify him with a direct response.

The same way people try to have an opinion on other factual matters these days. Look at any televised science debate and you'll see various stations trying to give airtime to different "viewpoints." It's amazing how often one "viewpoint" doesn't have any real scientists on it, and yet somehow a bimbo who posed in Playboy decades ago is put opposite doctors as if the two are equally qualified to talk about it. I don't think any reasonably prudent person would view Olsen's comments as being opinions; it's clear he was trying to present them as facts, and an anonymous source (who may or may not be fictional) saying it to him doesn't count as due diligence. I think Woods' lawyers, should he choose to go that route, could likely show some malice in Olsen's statements (which is a major threshold in a celebrity slander/libel suits).

I can't think of a better way to keep this stupid story on the front page. They did the same thing by making a fuss over the Dan Jenkins article. Let it go.

I'd like for Olsen to tell us who his "strong witness" and "credible" source is. He should have just came out and said he lied about all this.

Very bad attempt at a topical analogy, FYI. Science is rarely black and white and there is often room for truly differing opinions. Whether or not someone took drugs IS black and white and isn't open to any interpretation.

Olsen is trying to backtrack to to save his butt from legal action. Plain and simple. At no point can what he said originally be construed as 'just his opinion'. He said everything as if it were fact, so if Tiger wants to crush this guy in court I'm sure he could.

My point is many people include on this thread have said Olson should be sued, he won't and he can't be sued. Al Gore had an opinion and agenda about global warming, he made some harsh predictions and even profited from it...now affectionate refered to as climate change...".and now we know the rest of the story" -the late Paul Harvey

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
