I would never count Phil out of a US Open. I think long hitters with a creative short game will do well. I played it two years ago and the knee high grass off the fairway was sparce and pretty easy to hit out of. Not sure how thick it is now.

The winner this week will probably have the best week driving the ball. I don't see many players being able to survive off fairway too much. Some of the greens are huge, which will probably make par easier to get, but also might limit birdies as well.

Looks like the weather is turning towards rain or clouds next week, which could mean some amount of wind off the ocean... we'll see.

I don't think there will be any weather delays. Even if it rains up there, it won't be the kind that you get on the East Coast during the summer time when it downpours. Might be the cold drizzle like you see sometimes at Pebble Beach.

The course drains so well that rain won't cause any delays. Plus there likely won't be enough to cause a delay. It could affect the outcome in that a morning wave could have rain and wind and the afternoon might not, but that is no different than a British Open.

Gotta say I'm really looking forward to this tournament - looks like a really interesting links course even if we won't quite get the weather conditions we do at the Open. As with the Masters, I'd love to see a Major-less player win and get their first.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

You are really going out on a limb on that one.

I prefer not to see a Todd Hamilton-type win (One Hit Wonder).....would rather see a player who has already proven himself with wins on the tour.....

BTW, this popularity-contest qualifying for Freddie...well, I hope it is unsuccessful.

I would, too, but I think if the winner's name isn't Jordan or Rory, the chances of a "surprise champion" are better than you think. You have a very unpredictable course that no one knows about with lots of quirks coupled with the fact that there are not a lot of big names going into the US Open playing well. It was the opposite going into the Masters. If you look at the recent major championships, the leaderboards have been stacked with stars. We're overdue to have a "Lucas Glover" year. I fear this could be that year UNLESS Jordan and/or Rory bring their A-game. Then everyone's playing for 2nd and 3rd.

FYI: I modified the first post to include almost all - 16 so far - of the hole previews. These are different from the ones with Holly Sonders, a little longer.

Agreed - someone who you can say deserves it - like a Westwood, Stenson, Sergio, DJ, Day, Kuchar would be great for me though. Wouldn't mind seeing Rickie win either. I would love more moments like this.
