Another day of mirror work in the hotel. I tried something a little different today. If I stood in the bathroom, I could use two mirrors at the same time. Very helpful.

Good idea.  I am traveling next week and I hope the hotel has good mirrors.

Have fallen off the wagon completely last two days. Ton of visitors at work. Will try to get back on... GE visit this week should help!

As per usual, working on the priority piece this morning in front of the mirror while waiting to go to work.  Also incorporated getting my knees together quicker instead of having them apart during the follow through.

I spent 30 minutes at the range this morning hitting a small bucket. I'm continuing to emphasize the left knee rotation on the takeaway and the left arm position on the backswing. But since I have a two day tournament coming up this weekend, most of my practice was on full swings, rather than half speed swings. The objective being to get the "swing I've got right now" into the best shape possible before Saturday.

15 minutes of mirror work.  My two current pieces are deeper hands at A4 and syncing straightening my right arm with my hip rotation from A6 to 9.  For the backswing, I am being careful to keep my right elbow in front on my shirt seam so it doesn't get stuck during the down swing.  I am concentrating on getting that elbow out in front down to A6 then syncing.  My Evolvr instructor likened it to almost a dance move feeling.

At the range yesterday, these two pieces seemed to produce higher launch.  I did the drill with a 7 iron and driver.

I practiced with alignment rods in the back garden, trying to ingrain an improved swing path before I submit my latest evolvr video tomorrow.

another 30 minutes or so working on setup/address at my desk. Will move on to backswing tonight for 30 minutes or so (simple going to A3 without swaying my hips) and hit the range Friday to see if I can incorporate the changes when hitting balls a bit. With camera, of course.

Spent about 45 minutes at the range mostly working with the five iron. Focused on steady head and weight forward. Tried a few unsuccessful shots with my driver.

5 mins practice (literally) before playing 9 holes with a group of mates. Full swing, in the nets. Key thought was to keep the flex in the right leg until A2 in the back swing.

I played 9 at the Balboa Park Golf Club 9 hole course.  Before the round, I took 3 balls and:

- Chipped from the fringe with a SW to a hole across the green and then back across the green (6 chips)

- Chitched (short pitch) from the fringe with a LW to a hole across the green and then back across the green (6 chitches)

- 12 putts at various lengths

- around 6 practice full swings focusing on Key #1

That was around 5 - 10 minutes.  Then played the round.

Went to the range and worked on my mapping drill between each shot. The mapping drill is helping me hit my irons a lot better. I spent about an hour on my irons. I hit one iron heavy and 2 thin out of about 45 iron shots. I also hit a few drivers really concentrating on getting axis tilt and was absolutely smashing it. I finished out the bucket hitting 3/4 and 1/2 shot. I noticed if I don't make a slight pause I pull all my less then full shots. When I do pause I hit them pretty much straight.

Did some slow swings without a ball, trying to ingrain the moves I've been working on as well as getting adjusted to a slightly weaker right hand grip.

Lesson today.  Back swing position good.  Lag good (in good position halfway down).  Still moving forward and a bit down, something I struggle with.  So my coach outlined some drills to work on.

Range - same pieces. Not a good practice as I rushed through it as it was cold and windy. Should have called it a day earlier, but was (unwisely) determined to finish my bucket.

30 minutes of work on the net. Same routine, alternating pitches/full swings. I was getting great contact today after a slight adjustment with my hands at setup. I remembered @mvmac telling me something some time ago about raising the handle at address to help with the Steve Stricker feeling and it facilitates some of the things I've been working on.

I tend to get the handle of the club pointing below the belt buckle which pre-loads PA#2, so to get that Steve Stricker feeling, I have to downcock my wrists at the takeaway to counter that. It's an awkward move that doesn't happen correctly all the time.
By raising the handle at address, I'm not pre-loading #2 any more, so I'm able to take the club away with a more neutral or passive wrist feel.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
