Front nine points awarded for morning play.  Still East in lead by 1.

New graphic header. Will swap out twitter images as they come in.

No changes in score. Just the photos in the header.

Groups moving down the back 9, positioning themselves for the 2points left per match.  I'm unclear if the even match after a lipout was for the 2nd match, so I left the 2nd match unreported on the back. I believe it's AS for the back 9.

OK folks, not sure what's gonna happen, this post contains a motherload of tweets.

The internet appears to have survived your tweet upload, @nevets88 .  I'm "borrowing" those photos to stick in the header of the scoreboard to make it a little different each time! Gotta step out for a bit, so not sure if I'll catch the drama as the morning foursomes get close to the 18th.  I'll check what has happened and post one more before I go.

Match 1 closing in on more points for the East. They've won the "Total" but I have not counted those points officially yet. They're guaranteed at least 0.5 for the back 9.

Unclear on Match 2, but I believe possibly AS on back.

Match 3, East trying to win the back 9 after losing the front by 3.

Stepping out for an hour or so.

Thanks @nevets88 and @RandallT for keeping us updated, it's great to be able follow along like this!

Yeah good stuff guys. I've even been keeping tabs on other matches here as well (for some reason we weren't supplied with electronic scoreboards around the course. Big oversight IMO) ;)

For those eye-ing the MVP point totals (Newport Cup is not an individual event!):

- @mchepp 7.5 (Red)

- @jamo 6.0 (Blue)

- @SavvySwede 6.0 (Blue)

- @jbishop15 6.0 (Blue)

- @saevel25 5.5 (Blue)

- @Big C 5.5 (Red)

Each player can max out from here with 6 more.

Hey @Golfingdad - I hope I don't screw up the scores and make everyone there change their strategy. That would be an epic fail if you all come back here and say, "yah, we thought the score was X, so we did Y- frigging RandallT!"

Tomorrow might be trickier with the weekend patterns of life being what they are with family.  But I've got it down to a science. Check at :25 and :55 for twitter updates. Post by :01 or :31, after double-checking for screwups.

Big between-rounds thanks to @RandallT and @nevets88 for keeping everyone posted. Even those of us playing are loving the updates and recaps. __________ In this morning's second match, @saevel25 and I jumped out to an early lead, but @Golfingdad and @kpaulhus scratched back, taking a 1-up lead going into the 9th hole. A steady par for the good guys and some help from the West Coast team drew us all square. Our momentum was quickly squashed, however, as a painful 9 on the 10th hole by us put Drew and Kyle in the lead. They expanded it to 2-up, and hopes of us clawing back were beginning to vanish. Three grinding hole wins in a row brought us back into it, and we went to the 18th tee with a 1-up lead. A big sweeping pull-hook by Matt off the tee looked like it might give us some trouble, but I managed to wedge it into the green, and Matt's lag gave us a par to the west coast team's bogey. Victory on the back nine and the match was ours.

You're welcome! Hope I can fit in time to keep it up. I'll drop notes if I'm not able to keep up too frequently.

Hunter and Vince look like they're the one group that stayed in tact through the 4 team matches.  They faced Barrett every time too, who seems to have rotated partners. (although this afternoon is a repeat from the morning). Looking at the scoreboard above with all four team matches on it, it looks like @mvmac likes to rotate his teams a bit more. Interesting.

A your welcome to all the thank you's. I can't remember if LSW mentioned the flag in or out. Twenty lashes w/a wet noodle.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
