I am interested in hearing how many rounds of golf everyone plays a year. I am retired and almost 67 years old. I play about 50 rounds a year. Normally I only play nine holes but occasionally I play18 when I have a cart.

Then there are other days that I just practice and experiment

About half are 9 holes after work - total count is 81 rounds so far - probably finish around 90 until snow flies

Wow, I'm surprised at how much people play!  I answered 21-40 without thinking about it too much.  I would estimate right about 40 rounds a year (3.3 times a month).  I try to play every weekend but realistically there are weeks where I don't play at all due to my job.  There are times where I may go 3 weeks and only play one time, and there are a few times a year where I may play multiple days in a week.

I do slow down between December and March.  I think for me 40 is a very real number.

Posted rounds per year is much lower.  I play a lot of scrambles and some other formats that would prevent me from posting scores of those rounds.

In all the years I worked, I never played more than 40-45 rounds a year.  Now in my first year of retirement, I will be over 70 rounds.

Our 30 week season here in the north keeps those numbers relatively low.

I'm 69 (soon to be 70), and retired like you, but play 5 or 6 times a week. This is my first full year as a retiree, and I should reach 250 rounds in 2015...when I played this morning, that was round #209 so far this year. I walk with a push cart 90% of the time, and always play 18.

I must admit, though, that playing this much golf tends to lose its appeal a bit from time to time. Sunday is the day I just about always don't play, but I find myself looking for the occasional excuse to skip another day every once in a while. My wife will be retiring in about 6 months, and that might cause me to cut back a little as well.

That is what happened to me. After playing all those rounds in a three year period I started cutting back and played only three times a week. I schedule three times a week still, but now I just don't have the desire to play in cold, wet, rainy days. It becomes a job and I worked a lot or 60-70 hours weeks before I retired so I know when to cut back. The good news I my wife is a pretty good golfer and she plays with me most every round although she is getting to the point where there are days she just rides along with me and does not play but likes to walk alternate holes as I do as well. Enjoy your retirement but be careful not to burn out on too much golf.

Only 10-20 times for me. I am hoping the weather cooperates so I can play a few more times before cold and snow. Would have loved to have played more. I got a lot more range time in though this year which I enjoyed very much.

From 1990 to 1996 I lived in a climate that had about 7+ months of play each year. There were days we played in 30* temps but it was usually sunny and thus not all that bad. We played three times a week by ourselves and on Friday night we had a nine hole couples tournament and again on Sunday we had an 18 hole couples tournament. Thus we still played close to 100 times a year.  The couples tournaments were only June to September because most women and some of the men did not want to play in cold winter like conditions.

Curious to see who has the highest TST post/round played ratio.

At 10 rounds and lotsa posts, I might be on that leaderboard. A dubious distinction!

LOL, I'm up there with you.  I have 27 or 28 rounds in the last 12 months, and that every two weeks or so pace is pretty typical for me.  Less time on the course = more time to post. :-P

Did a great amount of Golfing this year in NY. About 30 Rounds and I try to keep play at 2-3 times a week. Season is done in NY now due to the awful cold and fall weather. I will be back in FL come January so more rounds then.

I live in New York State and am still getting out playing in late October. I expect to still get a few rounds in in the month of November as well.

I get what you're saying. I never expected to feel this way, but I'm starting to realize that there is such a thing as too much golf. And that's especially true when I'm not playing well. All my life I've been a low single-digit player, and it gets tougher to score as you get older. My wife does not play golf, and I could never envision a scenario where she would. For the most part, I think that's a good thing, but I could see the other side of that.

I'm leaving tomorrow for about 9 days in New England (Mass. & N.H.) to visit family. I was debating on whether to bring my clubs, but decided against it, as the forecast for the next week or so shows a fair bit of rain and quite a few nighttime lows around the freezing mark. I'm actually looking forward to no golf for a bit, but I'm sure I'll be chomping at the bit to tee it up when I get back. I return on Wed., 11/4, and I'll be on the first tee Thursday morning for our weekly skins game. Thanks for your input...take care.

I just did the math. In a year's times @ 4.5 +/- strokes (average) per hole,  I hit/putt the ball 10,500 +/- times when actually playing. I have no idea how many times I hit/putt the ball with just practice. Maybe another 5-6 thousand times(?) . All this, and no back issues. Such a deal.

I get to post around 70 to 80 rounds in a typical year.  There are also a few other rounds that can't be posted, scrambles, 3-clubs, foursomes, etc.  This year's season is winding down, for the most part, although I'll be spending Thanksgiving week in Pinehurst, and will probably get in 6 or 7 rounds while we're there.  Then a week in Palm Springs in January with friends, another 5 or 6 rounds, and then a nice long layoff to recharge the golf batteries.

Even playing 50 rounds a year as I do, I can see where playing golf could potentially get a bit tiring and lose some of it's appeal if played too much.

I am interested in hearing how many rounds of golf everyone plays a year.

I typically play from mid-March when the snow clears to whenever snow covers the ground - Thanksgiving or early December most years.  If I don't play 100+ rounds something significant occurred during the season to interrupt my play.  I am at 88 (18 hole equivalent) currently as there were some personal issues through the summer.  I should hit 100+ barring an early snow.  Our handicap season ends 11/1 so in a week it will just be out of season play.  I don't spend a great deal of time practicing at the range.  If there is time I would rather play 9 holes than beat balls.

I got in about 60 round this year and hope to play over 80 next year.  Spring was very late this year, combined with all the snow we had piled on the courses all winter caused courses to open up much later than usual.

I read they are calling for a more mild winter, so hopefully golf season will start in March next year, not May.

So far this year I've posted 115 rounds. Would have been more but we had a bad winter in Md. I'm a general contractor partly retired so when I'm not working I'm playing. I'm lucky to have a lifetime membership at my club so it costs me nothing to play with or without a cart. Funny even though I play a lot my handicap has stayed between 5 and 7 for the last four years.
