.. my bag is a couple years old & I'm thinking about upgrading. What I've found is that ABSOLUTELY NONE of the manufacturers bags and the top non-mfg bags like Sun mountain, Ogio, etc make a bag with a side putter tube anymore. There are cheap bags, most notably RJ Sports that are all over eBay that make side putter tube bags, but there are no more Nike, Taylormade, Titleist, Sun Mountain bags made anymore that have it.

WHAT THE #^&*$&#$ !!!! I love having the putter on the side (its so much better than the big oversize putter well in the front top of many current bags) !!! Apparently no one else does. So depressed ... I can't believe I will have to spend a lot of needless time having to search high and low for a new old stock bag with side putter tube.

Curious, anybody else share my love for the side putter tube ?

I don't know if I'd call it "disturbing," but I guess it's not a good thing.

I feel your pain, having the oversize grip on the putter does lead to problems with most standard bags.  I've been searching for a new cart bag for next season and haven't really been thrilled with many products.

Checking on Ebay, there's a few, like you mentioned that are cheapo bags like the Knight 15 compartment cart golf bag w/putter Holder on side. The Bagboy Revolver LTD Golf Bag Cart Putter Pack Carrier, is a decent option.

Hot Z has a sporty looking bag.

I don't have a preference where my putter sits.

What I do find some what ironic are bags with more than 14 club slots, and those with compartments designed for food and beverages. With the 14 club rule, and most courses not allowing outside food and beverages to be brought in, it seems some rules don't apply to bag manufactures. I have a bag that will hold 18 clubs, which includes two out side club tubes, and has an insulated compartment for three cans of beverages. There is also an additinal tube for an umbrella.

Such a deal.

I agree. I have a sun mountain phantom cart bag I bought in 2005 that has basically this type of set up.  Works well.  They have a new phantom cart bag with the oversized putter will in the front. I tried it for a couple rounds - not sure why but it didn't work as well and putter always seemed to snag when I pulled if out of that bag. That bag only lasted 2 rounds before I ditched it - overall didn't like it - putter well wasn't the only reason but didn't help things.

In my Sun Mountain 14 Way Stand Bag:

Driver - Ping G30 10.5* : Fairway - Ping G30 18* : Hybrids - Titleist 915H 21* & 915 H 24* : Irons - Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 5 - GW : Wedges, Vokey 54.14, Vokey 58.12 : Putter - Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 or Ping Craz-E-R  : Ball - Bridgestone B330RX, Cart - Cliqgear 3.5

I do not share the love for the putter sidecar.

The cart bag I use is a SM 3.5 - I do not like heavy bags with 14 slots.

Good luck in your hunt! It's part of the game ... the hunt.

a little tacky, but you could just stick a length of PVC pipe down the large vertical side pocket, or bungie one to the bag.

I for one do find it disturbing as well as a conspiracy. Side well putter bags have been steadily diminishing since Obama took office and it appears he has all but eradicated the feature during his presidency. We continually lose our rights in America. While we were distracted, looking at Kim Kardashian spray champagne on her voluptuous ass, Obama had his cronies put a rider on bill that would ban pilots from taking selfies on commercial jet planes while in air. Of course it passed and now only a few rogue leftover external well putter bags are grandfathered in. Damn Obama,

My guess is our golfer in chief doesn't use a side well putter bag.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
