Would you rather play only one round all year, but it's at Augusta National, or play unlimited golf at your local course/club?

This is a toughie. You're basically deciding between the all-time golf bucket list item and taking a year away from the game. If you play at Augusta National, you will have the ultimate trump card in any story-telling contest with your buddies. Amen Corner! The azaleas! The secrecy! It doesn't matter what you shoot; what matters is that you played. But on the flip side, that is your only round of the year. Last minute invite to a Top 100 course with your boss? Nope. Quick nine after work on a summer afternoon? Nope. You're one and done.

But it's a great one.

Is the unlimited golf at only one course, or is it at any of your local courses?

Not even close.. All year round golf!

I do say that with the disclosure that I don't have an sentimental attachment to the history of golf or courses.  So, it's an easy choice for me.

Easy one for me, all year golf. I'd be more likely to get divorced if I only got to play once than if I played 150 rounds.

Unlimited golf is an easy choice for me. Not being able to play all year would be torture and I doubt the memories of Augusta would be enough to keep me from flipping my kid.

Unlimited golf.

Playing at Augusta would result in one of two scenarios. I'd either think it was the most awesome thing in the world - which would make not playing for a year a living hell, or I'd be greatly disappointed in the course - which would make not playing for a year a living hell.

The way I read the question I voted unlimited golf. If I only got to play one round, I would stink so bad I would be embarrassed to play Augusta.

I want to play more golf, not less. Definitely unlimited golf.

I would do the year around play at my home course. Augusta is great, but not worth giving up a year's worth of golf. .

No brainer for me, unlimited golf all the way. Plus ive read stories of people who have played Augusta and the course the "mortals" play is no where near as nice as when the pro's play during the Masters.

My Uncle played Carnoustie after the 2007 Open and was disapointed with the conditon and asked where all the nice sand was in the bunkers. He was told "We only bring the good sand in for the open". So the mortals get the crap stuff

I'd love to play Augusta, but not at the cost of an entire year of golf.

I think that is the type of 'golfer' I am trying to avoid inviting into my group. I meet enough blowhards in the business environment.

I am tempted but my experience with "once in a lifetime" rounds is uneven.  For example, when I played Oakland Hills - South, my game was at a low point and I pretty much kicked it around.  It is hard for me to summon up positive memories of Oakland Hills as a result.

There would be a good chance that at the end of the round at Augusta that I would be "beat up" from 4-putting and dumping balls into Rae's Creek.  I would have the next 12 golfless months to stew about my performance at Augusta.  Plus my "day" might involve rain or 3 insufferable members as part of my group.

Now if we want to go full fantasy and the weather is perfect, Arnie invites me to play as a 2-some and I turn in a score in the "70's" for 18, sign me up.  I can still practice!

I think you could say "10 rounds at Augusta, Old Course, Pebble Beach…" and a lot of people would still pick the unlimited golf option instead.

I think around here you would get about the same response as people who hang out in a golf forum tend to play more golf. If you ask the question to guys who only play 25 rounds a year and the results might be very different.

Yeah, I agree.

Some guys here don't play 25 rounds a year, even though they care enough about golf to join a forum, but… I don't know if they could fit the travel time in, so even they might still vote the same! :-)

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
