So, since his Us Am victory last August, that is a pretty darned solid season for an Amateur.

I would say so. He was better than 64 other players at the Masters :-D

Cobra thinks a hat will make somebody an icon . . .the article also references Rickie's "important" choice of headware.  Yeah - that pretty much sums up how I feel about Cobra.

Just read Bryson also signed with Bridgestone to play their golf balls and gloves.  He will be playing the B330-S

Quote

“I take every part of my game seriously and spend a considerable amount of time thinking about how each element will allow me to compete at the highest level,” said DeChambeau.  “When it was time to make a decision on the golf ball I would use as a professional, it was clear after a thorough review that Bridgestone Golf’s Tour B330-S was the best fit for me.  I’m excited to be a part of Bridgestone’s team and benefit from the precision they put in to each and every ball made.”

Cobra sent me a nice little care package yesterday. Take a look…

So @iacas, the question is... Do you plan to cap it like Bryson?  Do you!?

@iacas thanks for sharing.  Looks like Cobra plans to push Bryson hard which is great for him.  I know it happens all the time in the golf world but Edel can't be too happy having supported him through him amateur career and right when he makes the big time he bails.

I like him. I agree it's arrogant talk....but I sort of give him a pass. Everyone is talking to him, asking him questions, and he has to say something. I guess he could be falsely modest. Is there anything wrong with thinking of yourself as an artist (or scientist, or whatever)?

He's a kid. He has lots of talent and an interesting approach to golf. I'm very excited to follow his career.

If I could make one prediction it would be that he needs to improve his putting or his career will go nowhere. At the Masters he seemed like a very tentative putter. Very good from 6 feet in, and not terrible lagging long ones, but those 6-15 foot birdie tries at Augusta did not look good if you ask me. Saw him in another tournament and it was the same thing. Sort of tentative.

But that's just casual observation.....subject to error and bias. But I think we tend to have a decent feel for who the good putters are, like Speith. Bryson doesn't impress me that way.

It's tough when pretty much any company can make you a knock off of another company's clubs. I am sure Bryson has the exact specs of his irons, wedges, and putter.

When Cobra can go in and say we can make you the exact same clubs and we'll pay you this big contract. That is tough to say no to.

The guy had the 12th fewest putts all week. He only had 4 more putts than Spieth. They were not that far apart, 2 out of the 4 rounds Bryson played better than Spieth.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking of yourself as an artist.  I just don't think there's a way to say, "I am an artist" without sounding pretentious.

I don't blame Bryson for chasing the money, I would likely too.  I know Edel had put time and money into building his clubs and they were planning to release a set of SLI irons which would probably sell better if Bryson was still playing Edel clubs.

It's tough for these smaller golf companies to retain pro's (especially high profile ones) when the major vendors larger budgets to outbid them.

But the fact you can identify Rickie based on his clothing is EXACTLY what Puma and Cobra want you to do.

Maybe not if I'm identifying that I don't want to buy that clothing. ;-)

Thats true!

But just look at the youngsters, they love the look and buy it up.  Puma likes those people more :-D
