To summarize: Poor little millionaire golfer encounters the same workplace bullshit that everyone else does.

http://www.golfdigest.com/story/undercover-tour-pro-why-i-dont-like-playing-at-the-home-office

I have no sympathy for professional athletes who complain about their working conditions.  If I knew who this guy was, I would finally have an entry on my "Golfers I Hate" list.

You'd think with all the clues he drops someone would be able to work it out - from just one article:

paired with a previous winner at his rookie masters

over $5m earnings

played in the Players last year (and possibly in the water on 18! :) )

outside the top 30

...unless its all made up..

I liked the article.

Usually I like getting behind-the-scenes info/insight from players but this particular article just struck a different chord with me.  I'm curious what you liked about it.

I didn't necessarily have a problem with most of what he was complaining about. It is ridiculous when you can't hold a green because they make them too hard and you know that the more well known players most likely get preferential treatment i.e. being able to skip pro-ams. I typically don't like to hear pro-athletes complain because they get paid a lot of money to do stuff that we do for fun and for free/or are charged to do, but this article didn't really come across all that bad.

I could relate to the author.. The privileged few, the suites giving contradicting instructions, but the thing I liked the most is the mystery behind who is it and the humor in it.

I can't begrudge him for being rich, even though compared to me he is the privileged, but even then it's ironic how even when you're that privileged there is the more privileged.

You wouldn't think so. Except the total number of guys with career earnings in excess of $5 million currently sits at around 275 - according to PGA.com. Someone with enough time on their hands could probably narrow it down, though.

I guess, but why? Would our lives be any better knowing who it is? Keeping this person anonymous keeps it novel and makes the article fun to read.

I vote we just take it for what it is.

And which of us doesn't have some similar complaints about our own work environment.  Just goes to show, as good as those guys have it, there's still some annoyances.  Of course, if those poor fellas had to go slice meat in a butcher shop somewhere, imagine how bad they'd think THOSE working conditions were!

You forgot that he's also ugly, boring and lazy...

Frankly, I don't really have the looks or personality, or desire, to supplement my income with lots of off-course activities.

Right.  We (sarcastically) say "oh, poor him, he's so rich!" and complain that he complains.  But it's all relative.  If he can't complain about things, then none of us can.  Everybody is better off than somebody.

I believe the character is made up.  It is a combination of all sorts of off the record stories and comments designed to entertain us and give us a glimpse, albeit a fictional one, of the "inside" of the PGA Tour.

It's this idea (that I think is probably right) that would keep me from spending too much time playing detective. :)

I didn't find much wrong either. I agree some people should not whine given their position and privilege but this article brought up a few probably valid small gripes. Everything is relative and we all have annoyances. He knows he is lucky, so I cut him some slack.

Undercover Tour Pro doesn't sound like he's Secret Tour Pro.

Looking forward to new upstarts like Anonymous Tour Pro, Unnamed Tour Pro, Unknown Tour Pro. Hey, maybe they'll all be paired together at the Masters one day and we'll call them the faceless grouping. :-P

Yo, Undercover Tour Pro, "meet" GCTigerTracker.

These guys all sound boring though. I'm waiting for Ornery Tour Pro.

Dude is far from rich.  $5M over who knows how many years, taxes, caddy, agent, travel.  If he's been around 10 years, that doesn't leave much for investing.

Having said that, he's a whiny turd.  My guess is Jeff Overton, he's griped publicly about PGA policies in the past.  Just a guess.

Almost 13m made over his career ... so probably not.  (Although, 13 million is "over 5 million" so it doesn't technically rule him out. ;))

My assumption (not really based on anything) is that it's just sort of a fake amalgam of several different guys...I'm guessing they interview one or two pro's for each article, and then combine it into a single voice.  The details they drop in are specifically designed just to get people guessing.

Yup, that's kinda what I've always thought.
