Seems like a 1st world problem and lot of effort to fix what appears to be an issue limited to those who use cart bags that don't stand on their own.

I'd suggest rather than a fund raising campaign you just lay your bag or the clubs you want to hit on the ground.   If you feel really strongly against laying your bag on the ground take the money you'd donate and buy yourself a stand bag.

I think it's unfair to refer to it as a first world problem. I mean, golf is the epitome of a first world activity in my opinion so evaluating it in perspective seems the right thing to do.

I think there are cheaper options that could be had. If its purpose is to lean your clubs against it, a simple piece of rebar from home depot with a bend in the top would be good enough to hold some clubs. If there are financial concerns, I'd be searching for some spare change where I could to help the club. Maybe host a public scramble where funds can go towards facility upgrades. http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/bWQAAOSwOVpXZB~E/s-l225.jpg

Just to clarify, I voted option 1, as I would expect a club with a membership to provide the bare essentials. You only need 10-15 hitting bays on a range, so for $50-100 you could easily build some club holders like the one above.

It was a bit of sarcasm that obviously didn't translate well.

I answered the poll as "no - make do".  I would expect this type of thing to be decided by the Board.  They should be in a position to know whether this equipment is desired by a majority of the membership.

Just buy a decent stand bag, they never fall over.

Could be the club doesn't want them for aesthetic reasons, my club doesn't have them but I have a stand bag so no issue.  Too, if they move the tee markers frequently, moving the bag stands becomes added, unnecessary maintenance.

I'd further vote "Not worth the effort to pursue." if that were an option.

I answered "yes", but it would depend on how I was doing financially at the time and my donation couldn't be much.

My course keeps their rates very low. Spending a bit more for whatever was needed certainly wouldn't be out of the question.

The thing is, they would probably never ask.

There are cheaper options and building stands although possible, will probably look hokey. The cheaper stands....well look cheap. I have always been a proponent of professionalism in a business. Building them from rebar would not say this.

I already own a stand bag but prefer my cart bag and I am not going to switch for just the range. I can tolerate the way it is now. I don't find it appealing or convenient to put the bag on the ground or I would have been already doing this.

Thanks for all the input. I am just going to mention to our future new pro and ask why we don't have them. In case there is a specific reason we don't and ask if he feels like they would be viable. I know it does not appear to be my problem but our club is pretty small town and has been behind the curve as far as updates and upgrades.

It sounds like at your club this is something where it would be nice to pitch in, and I would probably go along with it from what you describe.  I pay a $200 range fee where I am so I would be offended and that is where I voted.

Also I played at a club today within my home clubs network and it was obvious how they overcharge for everything where I am a member so I am pretty annoyed with that.  Asking to pitch in like this would get a blank stare from me.   Your mileage may vary

I am offended (and voted such) that they are asking for something that they should have provided as part of a good service.   If they don't have a particular service, they should be asking for members' understanding or even apologize for it.   FWIIW, my course has club stands and other "extra" services as a way to attract members.

I chimed in earlier, saying I wouldn't contribute, but I wouldn't be insulted at being asked.  In reading the other responses, it seems that many people believe that bag stands should be expected at each driving range.  I simply disagree.  Bag stands may be a nice amenity, but for a budget-strapped facility they seem like a luxury.  I don't see a problem if a group of members choose to chip in to provide a luxury-type amenity that the club can't afford.

I know I said it earlier, but members are often really good at finding ways to spend the club's money.  Its nice to find members who are willing to spend a bit of their own money on something that the club can't afford on its own.

I already know that the club has financial struggles. I do not expect the club to accommodate me on this which is why I would prefer to take on the responsibility for wanting these rather than the club.

I would donate to the cause.... Maybe do a 50/50 raffle or something to accrue the funds... When I was in high school that's how the booster club got the money to get us team bags... Through 50/50 raffles and such...That might be the way you get your $950 to get your range stands.

I talked to the pro and he was very receptive to the idea of adding the stands but also knew the club would struggle to purchase them. He however pointed me in the direction to who I could talk to about getting something going with the members.

This gets a little irritating when you have a stand bag that tips over at times.

Why is this happening? You do mean a stand bag with the two legs that stick out forming a triangle with the bag? Mine has never tipped over.

I wouldn't mind a low pressure request for a donation - perhaps a flyer or a letter to members or something - but I would not donate because I don't feel the need for bag stands.  The ground is fine.  I typically carry and usually just toss my bag on the ground on the course - even though it is a stand bag.
