clearly my perception is wrong then, or the way ive worded it, most likely both.

I guess the question would be why would he go titliest/ping/callaway/A Another instead of TM?

Because they too produce quality clubs.

Heck, there was talk of him going to Miura not long ago. Or back to Mizuno.

He might just be testing these out. He might not even end up with TaylorMade clubs.

I figured tiger would have started his own brand from the infrastructure of nike golf. But it seems like that isn't gong to happen. On tour level, i think the only thing that really matters to those guys is the ball, anyway. You give them a set Maxfli clubs and they'd still probably shoot 68 at Augusta.

After being tied to Nike for so long, it is interesting to see what Tiger chooses to game, though.

Agreed he may just be testing them out, but considering they all make quality clubs, they are all innovating and as you showed the top rankers are a mixed bag of all of them, would this likely mean it all comes down to money over say feel?

Tiger started of with Titleist so maybe its a case of "been there done that bought the T-shirt".

TM is the more logical move for him. I dont think he fits Cobra's "image" and Mizuno maybe a bit "niche" for him?

I do have an idea for Tiger though. Rather than jump ship and become another "staff player", i think he should show how good he is buy going down to Dick's, buy a set of Dunlops (he can stick with his current balls, DDH's arent required for this).

This does 3 things

1: Shows us he can play well with whatever club is in his hands.

2: Gives the finger to the big names

3: We all get a laugh out of it.....win win.

I LOVE this idea - pretty sure he would be at a disadvantage to the rest of the field if they didn't play similar clubs, but its a cool idea :content:

Because TM has an uncertain future given Adidas (parent company) is trying to sell the business.  Prospective buyers may have differing views on signing Tiger to an expensive long term contract.

Tiger will dictate what the clubs look and feel like when he chooses a manufacturer, so it's pretty irrelevant who he picks.  Pro's don't play the same clubs we buy.

Dunlop is actually a major player overseas, especially in Japan.  The XXIO brand is a Dunlop company and their equipment is much more expensive than most of the mainstream manufacturers.

Thats true, but Tiger using XXIO loses the comedy value. It would have to be their budget budget "TP Tour" range (Single irons for less thand £10 at sports direct).

That said...

I use their "premium" NZ9 range 5 wood and its really nice and their DP1 balls are made by the same japanese firm that make Srixons balls.

Sorry Tiger, you're gonna have to find another brand that makes cheapo clubs mate!

I don't think he is going to care, at this point, about the marketing aspect of it.  He is going to want to pick the clubs that he likes the best and give him the confidence he needs when he competes.  I think Tiger's comeback is all about the titles and not about the money at all.

Because he likes them better?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I don't think the brand matters at all. The brand he chooses will make clubs that meet his likes and specs. The money will be important as even though Woods has been out of the limelight for a few years now, he is still the biggest draw in the game.

it's true the ball goes far these days and pro players can hit a modern driver or a hickory club 300 carry both equal (seen on many demos). the moderne driver only being more forgiving.

nevertheless player preference is huge. I think tiger had a hard time on his putting switching to nike versus his "in his hands" long timmer scotty tool. rory had a hard time switching to nike. both tiger and rory were titleist players digging in to their pro outcome.

Tiger could probably invest into the addidas deal for TM why not. Mizuno is pretty complicated material and furthermore forged club therefore less precise. even mizuno beginer clubs have a allmost scratch player rating on some test sites.

ping and tm being the most forgiving by far. did'nt look too much into callaway wich seams a very US present brand. we dont see much callaway in europe appart from the ladys offer.

C'mon.  Obviously Tiger can't be playing such complicated materials after a long layoff.  Well, maybe if they were more precise cast clubs, but then again not if those clubs were anywhere near a scratch player rating.
