In 2017 I would like to improve my drive, both as distance and as precision.

My golf teacher  advised me to swing up to 80% to improve accuracy.

I should train for this. If I can achieve this goal my handicap definitely goes down.

With an upcoming shoulder resurfacing, my goal is to simply maintain a HCP between 9.5-10.5 by:

1. Continuing 5 mins challenge

2. Starting with Evolvr

3. Hitting more GIR (greater than 60%...11/18) and nGIR (88%...16/18)

With my 2nd Left shoulder surgery of the year coming up in early August, #1-3 haven't come to fruition, so seeing this thread I thought I should revise it to be more realistic:

1. Become a better putter by improving my green-reading and distance control on lags

2. Develop a centered hip turn

I totally revamped my set over the Christmas holidays, finally ditching the stiff-shafted Pings & going to regular-shafted Callaways. Also added in a 5 hybrid, so now the longest iron in my bag is a 6.

Thus, my 2017 goals have been to just practice like crazy with them & acclimate to my new reality of an aging dude with a declining swing speed.

And I'm getting there (now that it's June lol). Hit a bucket this morning & got my distances pretty much dialed in - I hit the 7 iron 150, and base off of that - -10 for each shorter iron, +10 for each longer one. Hitting the Driver about 240. I'm good with that.

Biggest problem has been taking the "range swing" to the course. I invariably over-swing trying to coax more distance. My brain still thinks I'm 35. ;)

Just got back from the range. Hit 2 large buckets & had some fun with a dad & his son, who was maybe 7 or so. He was just machine-gunning shots out there...couldn't hit them fast enough. Dad insistent that the boy take a break which he finally did.

When he resumed, the ball picker-upper guy was running the range. The boy was curious as to what that was, dad explained it to him. I then said, "Hey Nick (the boy)...let's try to hit him." He loved that. Dad told the boy that if he hit him he would get two toys from the store. On like his 5th attempt, he hit a one-hopper - 'Wham!'

The look on the boy's face was priceless.

So that was my practice session this morning. lol.

By the end of summer I want to be breaking 80 regularly. I'm determined to be at least as good as I was at my best at 32, pre injury. It's 29 years since my dad got me playing, except the last almost three years from a bad workplace accident. I didn't fall as far as I expected.

My 2017 goal is massive yet simple. I would love to straighten my drives out my driver, hybrid and long irons I am like a two year old on gummie  worms I am all over the place. I can usually hit 4-9 straight but off the tee or long fairway shots I'm everywhere my theories might be wrong but I'm working the game from tee box to cup. Work on getting one part manageable then add the next component. Played on the 3rd. 7 penalty shots that day and 7 balls sacrificed to the golf gods. Don't want to not use my drivers and just short shot my irons but man I do get a bit flustered. I moved from my par 3 course up to the par 72 18 hole to push myself and to play with others and enjoy the game more now I wonder if I should have waited till next season to move up with the big boys. Also physically the 18 hole walking was to much. I could do 9 but second half was to much. So goal is to get shots straightened out and thus not chase the ball all over the place. Keep your fingers crossed. I have my first lesson with the club pro on the 10th.

Two specific goals this year: 1) more rounds in the 80s than 90s - if I shoot in the triple digits, I have to make it up with two rounds in the 80s :D  2) Break 80 at least once - I have a great story of how I went double double on 17 and 18 to shoot 80 earlier this year (you can read it in the breaking 80 thread)

Things I am doing to reach these goals:

Range time and focus on a specific practice plan (which I am behind on). In the past, I have just gone and hit balls and hit balls and hit balls with no consistent plan - hit the driver 3 times and they're decent? fine, I'm done with that club...

Have a specific pre-round stretch/warm-up routine to cultivate focus for (hopefully) consistent on-course performance

Break down and take some lessons... easy, right? never had a lesson but I don't really want to change from my 10 finger grip and a couple of my pros think I should :(

Put the bottle away until the 19th hole on weekend rounds - the cart girl is just such a great sales person!

Focus on every shot, take my time, take my meds, and don't let a bad shot affect the next shot - keeping my head in the game is going to be the most difficult thing to control

Remember that I am not a pro and I PLAY GOLF BECAUSE IT FUN (and competitive, but mostly for fun) - no sense in getting frustrated.

My 2017 golf goals are really centralized around my goal of getting into a PGA Management program at a good university. I've been working really hard towards that goal and 2017 is the year that I see if I can get in. Also, 2017 is big for my Youtube channel. I have a Youtube channel that I really want to grow because I hope to use youtube as a teaching platform someday. If any of y'all are interested I will provide a link to my channel at the end of this post. But Youtube is a very big part of my golfing goals this year.

My golf goals are to find my tempo and employ it which will then help my other goal which is to get into the double digits. I played today and for once my putter was very warm but my drives were fubar. Will try again tomorrow and many many more times after that.

Put in 10-15 hours per week at minimum.

Hit the course, whether it's the range, putting green, wedge area, or even better if I can get out on the course, at least 5 times per week.

Work to keep the plane of my swing steep (it is very flat through years of neglect) and improve the follow through.

Stay patient and respect each shot.

Don't worry about my score. Just do all this and the rounds in the 70's will come around.

My goals are very general.

I would just like to strike the ball more consistent.

A year ago, I was decent.  Shooting low 90's, feeling like I was improving each round.  Then everything went down hill.  Lost confidence over the ball, hitting 20-30 yards shorter, and I have no clue where the ball is going as I strike it.  So I started taking lessons in October, and still, I feel I haven't improved.  I strike better more often, but not even close to what I used to.

I'd like to see some improvement.

My goal this year was to get to a single digit handicap. And I have achieved it. After taking 15 years off from golf I started again in April and through lessons and a lot of playing I am now under 9. Now my new goal is to get to a sub 7 by the end of the year. Playing on a home course rated at 74.4 / 141 helps.

My goal this year was to reach single figures (e.g. 8.9) and hit some firsts along the way:

- break 80 again, and on some other courses

- hit some eagles

- 9 holes/18 holes at par

- 9/18 break par

The plan was to reroute my swing plane, maximise my distance and strengthen my chipping/scrambling game.

Into the season, I've been working solid and am on track with the plan and the results are slowly starting to emerge. Swing plane is much more from the inside - lower body rotation, weight shift and impact position is much better. Club distances have gone up with my driver ,fairways and longer irons (still getting used to my new numbers). Results-wise HC is at 9.4, hit a handful of 78s and 79s, one at another course, broke par for 9, still no eagles although having regular med-long putt attempts (one will  surely drop!). New goal is 7 by Nov, lofty (started the year at 12) but hey, what are goals for?

I reached my goal ,went from a 12 HC when the season started ,now a 6.

This is according to the PGA standards.

Was it math?  Was it a new ball?  New driver?  Actually, congrats... it is always difficult to cut your handicap in half, especially when you start somewhere under a 20 index.

No actually I found a pro's video's  on You tube. Mark Crossfield ,from England.

This guy is a great. He Reviews all types of clubs, and gives instruction a on every shot and problem you may have.

I was constantly coming over the top ,but after watching  him and trying his drills ,believe it or not it helped me tremendously.

I also have to give an atta boy to the new Putter I purchased. It's the EVENROLL 2 . Terrific stick. In this case I believe it is definitely the arrow and not the Indian.

Also this guy has the absolute BEST SWING I have ever seen.

You guys should give him a look . If you do ,please drop me a line and let me know what you think.

A little revamp and update of my 2017 golf goals.

19.06.2017:

I just finished my intro course and the goal I had in mind was to reach under 100 and 25 in index.

31.07.2017

I am regularly under under 100 with my best score at 90. My index is around 25 ish. I didn't write myself down on the 90 round since I felt I was overperforming.

My new goals is to get rid of the slice on the driver and add another 20-30 yards to my drive. (Currently all over the place from 200 to the longest on 299yards). I would also love to win the Club championship. I am participating in 2 classes - Men Stableford (This is the one I hope to win) and net stroke (hope to place decent and go a round around 90).

If I can't do it all this year I am not disappointed since I have reached my first goals in less then 1.5 months!!!
