We have all seen the guys on the golf channel use a hula-hoop. I was watching this morning and Breed was talking chipping so I was glued. I tried it and keeping your hands coming around instead of down the target line feels weird to me while chipping. Is this something worth focusing on ? I sure will if it is a good thing , It just feels odd. I do not want to practice in the wrong direction. Chipping and pitching is something Im trying to dial in so Im willing to try anything. Hula-Hoop really ??

1/1 - Putting in the basement. Working to get the feel of my new grip.

1/2 - Putting in the basement in the AM. PM - Went to range and worked on my new drill. Worked with 54 deg wedge, PW, 7 iron and driver doing the same drill repeat. Around 45 minutes. Too dark to film unfortunately.

150 balls at local range. Batches of 10 balls starting from PW moving through bag concentrating on each shot and working on swing technique and trying for consistently getting a decent contact resulting in straight(ish) shots with acceptable flight. Decent results as really took time with each ball settling and thinking about what I want to happen

30 minutes slow swings, mirror work, and about 30 balls into a net focusing on feel of half swing and good pivot. Also making sure setup looks good.

1/2: More pitching practice. 10 minutes of distance work with normal ball position, then about 10 minutes altering trajectory up or down using ball position but trying to hit the same distances.

25 min. Alternate Sklz swing trainer, 7 iron, and move the hose watering the plants

Sklz, 7 iron, hose

then Sklz, driver, hose

interesting concentration drill--inside out swing focus but don't flood the yard!

small to big swings to get inside out path is working well with 7 iron and much better with driver. Makes me wonder if there is an optimum, smooth and xx% strength of full swing and what distance that might be. If I swing smoothly, inside out at 50% strength, will I get only 50% of the distance or will I get more? How about 75%? Gonna have to try it next time I go to range.

Today I worked on more full swings with the zepp.  Continued focusing on club path using the 3 swing analyzer feature.

50 balls lunch time range, focusing on swing and connecting well with ball again using PW then mid irons for first 30.

Last 20 balls #3 & #5 woods off the deck as when used driver on first ever round was shocked and horrified at how different "in real life" to when on range with nothing in the way so figured I'd practice the fairway woods and use them until I get comfortable/confident enough to swing the brick!

Back to a normal routine today. Up early to workout, then spent 15 mins with mirror work feeling correct backswing positions and pivot.

2. Worked today before work on my takeaway, (keeping angle in wrists in back-swing and not letting the club head get farther away from my target line than my hands until my hands are at hip height. and then the same motions in the downswing) nice and slow takeaways to put the feel in my body. might take it to the indoor range later on and work some more.

    • Good progress. I am finally feeling like I am settling my weight into my right foot earlier in the backswing. Right hip sinks back, right leg feels staying flexed. Feeling very stable and firm in the right leg. I feel like I could do a good squat with that right leg. Very balanced.
    • oops, forgot Pebble Beach and Spyglass.  And two more of the original Open rota, Prestwick and Musselburgh (with hickory shafted rentals).  And Muirfield.  And maybe a few more, I'll check my list when I get home.
    • Day 189 2-20 Really focused on rotating the forearms today with wrist arched. Did some single arm swings as well.
    • In March of 1978 I got to play Pebble Beach GC. Played it from the back tees, since I knew I'd probably never play it again. Oops, shot 102.  Three weeks later, I played Torrey Pines - South, again from the back tees (maybe 6,700 yds in those days). Shot an 87, and missed a birdie putt on the lakeside No. 18 green. In 2021, I played TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities area. This is site of the John Deere Classic. It was early October and the course was undergoing renovation, so I got to play the front nine twice for $110, lunch included. The course was great and the driving range was unbelievable. Hint: you need to pay attention to the wind drafts before you try to challenge the cross bunkers! BTW, Deere Run is a public course. Norwood Hills Country Club is site of the Champions tour event, the Ascension Charity Classic, now the Stifel Charity Classic. This classic layout has 36 holes. This summer I hope to play the West course where the Champions event is held; Missouri Golf Association is sponsoring an amateur event there.  I have played the shorter East course three times - it's quirky but quite fun. Also: Circa 2000 I played il Picciolo, a course at the base of Mount Etna in Sicily. The volcano was spewing ash that week. The course frequently hosts European pro events. Lots of elevation change and gently rippling fairways. Left a 7i shot 10 yards short of green on one par 5. Turns out the hole had a 12-foot high alpine flagstick, and I was not as close to the green as I thought I was (bad perspective).
    • Just the Plantation course at Kapalua. Not like I didn't know it, but it was a visceral reminder of how ridiculously good the tour pros are. That course is f***ing *hard* playing it from ~6500 yards. From the tips!? Then if there's wind?!
