I really, really need to try out a lot of grips before I get the one I like most, and feels the best in my hand. This year I tried a ton of them and ended up with Golf Pride 2015 Limited Edition New Decade Multi Compound Platinum for everything but my Putter (Superstroke Flatso grip which I absolutely love). Older grips, but they feel soooo good.

That is a nice grip.   I have the Golf Pride mcc Plus 4 which is similar.   I wanted something that felt good in my hand and was durable.

I've been a big fan of Star Grips since they were GripTec back in the mid 90's.  Great feel and amazing longevity.  Pretty much no shops in my area carry them, so they used to be a special order item, but I'm pleased to have found recently that you can buy them directly on the website now.  I'd highly recommend them.

I'm also particular.  I've gone through a bunch of styles, and am currently using Iomic X-Evolution grips.  They start very tacky, and stay tacky-feeling for a real long.  the grips on my irons are two years old, and feel just fine.  They're also the best grips I've ever played in the rain.

I am very picky about my grips as well and I still have not found a set I have liked as much as the multi compounds. But I have not tried a ton of new ones either. When you guys are trying out many grips, are you both entire sets to play, or buy a few and installing a different one on different clubs before buying an entire set?

I've been on the Iomics for 4 or 5 years now, so I just change them the traditional way, but I know a lot of people are now using air to blow grips on and off.  Using the compressor, you can un-install a grip pretty easily, without ruining it.  That seems to be the way to go if you're trying a bunch, get one of each and just blow them on (and off).

I've always stuck with Golf pride tour velvet....or some version like the lamkin 3 gen that I put on a couple drivers.  Cheap and I love the feel.  I have the MCC plus 4 on my wedges to see how they work out.  Not a fan of cord but these are ok.  Not worth the money though.  Next time I would just build up under the lower hand and use tour velvet.

Since I wear two gloves, I am not to picky about the brand, or the material. That said, I am very picky on how they are installed.

I use my grips as an alignment aid for the club face. I use the same hand grip on all of my normal shots. Because of this, I want my hands on the grip, so that my club face is in a good position at address. The grips I use have alingment aids to help with the placement of my hands on them.

This is an interesting factor of adjustable clubheads.  I recently noticed that the logo on my driver grip was facing right, not up.  I was puzzled, until I remember that I had adjusted the loft, which meant I had to have rotated the entire shaft.

Many grips used to have a flat spot on the inner core.  When installed, these grip would have a reminder rib, where the thicker rubber at the flat spot made the exterior stand out.  With adjustable clubheads, you wouldn't want to have to change your grip just because you adjusted your driver.  The moral, either use round grips, or install your grips with air so you can change them without destroying them

Last year, I branched out and put Sharpro multi compound on one set and Winning DriTac on the other. Both are very good for me. TackiMac Atomic are also very good in my hands.  -Marv

Color has never factored in my choice. I'll take pink if I thought it would make my game better, for me it's all about the feel of the grip all the way through my swing.  I have a hatred of wraps because they always feel to me as the club is twisting, even though I know in my head its not. I subconsciously adjust because or it.

My shop has each of the grips they sell on a standard 7 iron (this year they are using a Ping G 7 irons for the new grips. My grip was on a 2015 Mizuno, (they only go back 2 years in grip stock), and the 2016 grips were all on  Titleist 716 AP1, i'm guessing they do this to also try and sell the clubs as well as the grip), so you literally go into the "Grip Room" with a GC2 and HMT, pick out the grip you want to play from racks of 7 irons line the sides of the bay, and hit balls with it. Then try another, and another, until you are sure it's what you want. You can also compare performance across all of the grips to see any differences in consistency, create averages of each grip with all shots, as well as with just the good shots. It's an impressive setup. They do the same thing with Putters on their indoor putting green. That's how I found my first Superstroke Fatso, I bought 6-7 since. (one on each of my three scotties, one on my Nike B2-01 my Wilson 8801 (I think that's the number), and two on Mallet putters I gave away (One scotty, one TM, I cannot putt with a mallet putter, it has to be an offset blade and 35 inch or it just feels wrong and doesn't look right to me). None on my long putter, but it's not like I ever used it anyway. I practiced with it enough to get a feel for it, but I only gamed it twice to try it out. I just didn't enjoy putting with it.

I will say one thing though, the only grip that has truly, truly helped my game is the SS Fatso when I first saw them 4-5 years ago). My putts per round went down an average of 4 strokes over a month of use, and has only improved since then. It locks my wrist and lets me get the speed I need to get to the hole on long putts, and really stops me from messing up on my swing path on shorter putts, since my wrists feel locked. It has helped immensely in holing the 5-6 foot putts that I struggled with before (My putting strategy for a long put (20+ feet) was always get the right speed and line to die near the hole, or directly behind within 3 feet, because if I hit it 6 feet short (rarely) or far(more often), my putting average for the round drops and I ended up with three putts that were caused y bad form in my stroke. Now i'm draining those 5-6 footers more often than I should be.

Thankfully putting and chipping were two things I could work on easily after I could wanlk again post accident. My wife even encouraged me to have a putting green built in our back yard (we live in the country, and my house sits on 22 acres of perfect seaside property that would make an stunning 6 hole home links course  (totally off topic). The grounds are rolling and sweeping, tree's litter the grounds in ways that would make creative and challenging holes, unfortunately they would all be hitting into the same green. :/ But if I do get one put in, im going all the way, I I have a backhoe to dig bynkers and a beach to realsand fro,

I've been using the GP NDMC for over a decade now. It's the only grip I've found that can handle my sweaty hands. All of my clubs right now have the black and white grips, but I've done black and yellow and black and blue in the past.

Oh, and always midsize. That's an absolute must.

I went through at least a dozen different grips, before finally settling on the Golf Pride Tour Wrap.  Had them on my prior set for 3 seasons, and have them on my current set (2 seasons now).  I keep them clean and they are pretty much in the same condition as when they were installed.  Couldn't see myself using anything else now

Pure wraps for me. Love being able to put them on with a compressor and not needing tape. I can change them out in under 15 minutes (full set).

I am always wanting something new, and now (because of this thread) I am on grips.  I have tried a few grips including the Dri-Tac, but always come back to the standard Ping 5L. What grip would be comparable to the 5L and give a little better feel, longevity & tackiness?

Ping G30 SF TEC
Ping G25 3w
Ping G Red Dot +1/4" irons - 6,7,8,9,W,U,SW, LW
Ping G30 3H

Golfpride multi-compound are fine for me.  I tape them up to just over jumbo.  I get different colors for my wedges so I can keep them straight.

I still have an entire spare set I got on clearance with Golfsmith went out of business.  Should be good through next year before I consider trying out new brands/models.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
