One of the commentators said it was pretty brave of Hoffman to lay the club wide open on such a tight lie. But isn't the bounce useful on tight lies?

'In his prime, Woods epitomized the phrase “horses for courses,” the idea that certain golfers are especially well suited for certain courses. Though he proved he could win just about anywhere, 42 of his 79 PGA Tour wins (53%) have come on just seven courses. Twenty-four of those wins, or 30%, have come at Torrey Pines, Bay Hill in Orlando and Firestone in Akron, Ohio.'

30% on 3 courses. That's amazing.

From article in WSJ on whether Tiger's game is still suited for Torrey: https://www.wsj.com/articles/is-tiger-woods-still-built-for-torrey-pines-1516812606

42 of his 79 wins on 7 courses - that means he has 37 wins on courses that are not his "bread and butter". How many people have won 37 tournaments on the PGA Tour? I'm seeing 12 people. In history. Other than Tiger, Phil Mickelson is the only active player who has won more than 37 times on the PGA Tour. I'd say that was quite impressive.

Too much, though, can get the leading edge too high off the ground.

I didn't know that! I'll have to remember that when I'm on a tight lie.

The 12th is the number 2 handicap hole but that's because of the even handicap numbers for the back.  It is certainly the hardest to par for the bogey golfer.  All those hang gliders at the cliff edge a bit beyond the green are riding the prevailing ocean wind, a long par 4 into the wind.  I've never reached the green in regulation.  I've never driven it near that far on that hole though either (if that's the tree I think it is).  Even still it's a long poke to the green from that distance.

And then comes the 13th, my nemesis hole.

    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
