Dustin is such a great putter that he has one major. Even the media has said his putting is average. He hits the ball far and the media goes crazy and thinks that makes a multi major winner and then he plays and disappoints. I don't think he was even mentioned that much this year at the Masters. For being number 1 he should've gotten major airtime instead it was all about Tiger and  Phil Mickelson.

And speaking of...I know people are sick of all the Tiger pimping now that he is back but I think the Phil pimping is worse. He is not going to win another major. He doesn't have it in him. The media trying to make it happen isn't helping him accept reality.

Ha...sorry but he is one of the worst putters I've seen in my lifetime.

Dustin Johnson leads the PGA tour in 3 putt avoidance this season, with only five 3 putts in 432 holes, or only 3 putting 1.16% of the time.

Lets go over that again.

You are stating that the golfer that 3 putts one time out of every 100 holes he plays (or less than one 3 putt per tournament) is one of the worst putters you have ever seen.

Please. Just. Stop.

DJ is a great putter.  Tiger, on the other hand, is one of the worst putters I’ve ever seen. ;-)

They move the needle more than he does. Hell, Tiger was in the featured group every day. He arguably got more airtime than the winner.

As for Dustin and his putting… you're being stupid.

Tiger is great for the sport but his game is long gone. The media saying at the beginning of The Masters that he was going to win was ridiculous. Yes, I am looking at you Golf Channel. Then they quickly backtracked and made it seem like they hadn't said it.

Several? I saw just 2. Bubba Watson who isn't a big fan favorite as reported by the media and Rickie Fowler(who always congrats the winner).

Matt Kuchar was there as well.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

What an incredibly intelligent thing to say.

Not.

Yeah, but the bookies must be making a killing this year. Keep him around 16/1 outright win for each of the majors - just enough for nostalgic punters to think, "Oh Tiger...at that price he's worth a flutter."

Of course, with Tiger being Tiger, you never know - he might just come back to bite the bookies in the ass. If it does happen, my guess would be that it will be at the British.

You misspelled Jordan.

And any case that buttresses itself by saying 'even the media says . . .' has already lost.  First of all, that is the 'appeal to authority' logical fallacy.  Second of all, nowadays the media is a lousy authority.

Jeez... Maybe you're a little upset your boy didn't get the win yesterday, but c'mon. You're just hating on everything, and not making a bit of sense doing it. You might just need a nap?

I wonder if the uptick in ratings had something to do with all those final round videos available free on YouTube. It's like a tv show with an upcoming new season that makes its previous season available on Netflix/Amazon months before. Once you refresh yourself, you're more likely to watch the new season.

    • Some great stories here. I'm more inclined to remember good wedge or iron shots than putts. Here's a few that stand out in recent memory.  #17 at Elizabeth Manor (my home course): Last year at Schaubach Cup. It is the toughest par 4 on the course. Long, uphill, OB on both sides, a large bunker guarding majority of front, another lining the right and a steep fall off on the back. Par is always a great score here. Needed a two putt to go in to flight playoffs. Good drive and a decent 7 iron put me on the green but left a long meandering 45 feet carrom putt with green rolled out to 12 on stimp. All but guaranteed a 3 putt for anyone who knows my poor distance control. This one felt good right from the second I walked up. Saw the six-ish break, and executed almost perfect speed and line for the best tap-in I've ever had. We made the playoffs and lost on the second hole eventually but damn that putt felt good! #14 at EM:  North-South (Ryder cup knock off with our sister course Williamsburg GC). This was one of those 30 footers where you putt up a ridge and let it fall off. Higher you hit, more it breaks. Anyway, read both line and speed perfectly aaaannndd executed to drop it from the side door. Demoralized the opponents and soon after shut the door on them the next hole. They had a chance until then. I had felt like I had turned the corner on match play prowess earlier last year.  #17 Stoneliegh, Round Hill This one was with @DaveP043. A 25 footer from a high shelf to a low shelf, where the putt required to be placed just at the right pace up to the precipice of the upper shelf for it takes the slope to anywhere close to the hole. Had been putting decent all day on fairly difficult greens. Dave gave me a good line and spot to nudge it up to. I took and executed for a birdie! Made it even sweeter since I had just birdied #16. #5 at the 6-hole Par-3 course at Belmont, Richmond: Was having a bit of fun with @iacas. Had a match going with him for a soda. Had to make par from 5 feet to tie him going into the 6th and final hole. The greens had heavy aeration holes so it wasn't exactly a skill test. Anyway, I pushed a nervy stroke for the ball to rim out half an inch away from the hole. On most normal the ball stays out, but lo and behold the large aeration hole cut on the edge of the hole comes to my aid and tilts the ball back in the hole!  I don't know what was more satisfying, the putt or the look of annoyance/disgust on @iacas's face at the ensuing run off celebratory dance. 😂. He managed to save face by beating me by a stroke on the last hole but man that was a fun day!
    • Its not. They are just giving an example in a situation say if cant reach it. Example, You have 230 to the center of the green, you cant hit a club you have that far, so you whip out a 3/5 wood or whatever, but you have to hit it soft because there is trouble in front of the green, a bunker or water. A full swing would land you in the trouble. You want to lay up as close to the green as you can. So you aren't hitting a full shot with that club so for distance tracking you can make that shot a provisional and it wont affect the distance stats.
